View Thread: Walther P5 Opinions??

I found a Walther P5 9mm pistol at a local gunstore the other day. Looks like it's in pretty decent shape. I did not inspect the weapon closely because I was in a hurry.

That being said, I've never seen one of these before. Looks cool.

I don't know anything about them.

Does anyone have an opinion?

Price was around $450 if I remember correctly.

It's a tilting lock design like the Beretta 92 and the Walther P-38. The P-38 is a bit weak but the P-5 is beefed up. There is a P-5 and a P-5 compact. They eject to the left. (I think they both do or at least the compact does) They are wide due to the tilting lock design. They are collector items and go for close to $1000. Maybe that's just the compact but $450 is a good price even for the standard P-5. Magazines might be expensive and parts hard to find. If you don't mind the width they are nice. Some people complain about the left hand ejection but that's after the shot is fired. It doesn't bother me and I don't notice it. Inspect the frame for cracks and check small parts for function. It's a beefed up P-38 in design. The P-38 was popular with U.N.C.L.E. If I remember correctly the P-5 doesn't have an extractor. The case goes back against and with the slide and strikes the ejector but no extractor holds the case. Maybe I have it mixed up with another design but I think it's the P-5.

Thanks.

Not sure if it's compact or not. I think it would probably be a full size, but I'll have to go back for a closer look.
