That's a 9x19. The other one with the horizontal magazine one might be 9x18 although they did design 9x19 and 7.62x25 versions of it too. Here are those and a 7.62x25 version using the old PPSH magazine.

KernelKrink, Sir, You seem to know quite a bit about firearms and where to find out information. Would you know if making a Vityaz would be possible for a competent gunsmith with a regular AK parts kit? Theoretically?

While it is based on the AK, the mechanism is blowback, not gas operated. Other than the stocks almost everything else would be different. Shorter receiver, blowback bolt system, front trunnion, bbl, etc. An exact copy would be a major project.


However, there is a magwell available to adapt PPsH mags and another to adapt Suomi drums and mags to allow the AK to fire 7.62X25 or 9mm ammo along with bolt and bbl mods to allow the caliber change.

Some people have also welded on magwells from PPs43 kits to adapt those mags as well. All these will get you a pistol caliber AK, similar to the Vityaz. Still a major project, but do-able with mainly off the shelf parts. Several people have expressed interest in making a Bizon copy, mainly using a Calico drum altered to feed "backwards" but so far no one has gotten past the doodling on napkins design stage AFAIK.
