View Thread: Can any scope work with an AK?
ChIck3n
I just got my scope and stuck it on my scope mount (BP-02) on my WASR 10. This is the scope I got: http://www.barska.com/ac10634.html When I tried to boresight it, the scope was WAAAAY high (like 6 feet above the dot at 20 yards) and I could not get it anywhere close to being on target. I then stuck the old scope that came with my marlin .22 in the rings that came with the barska. Again, it was waaaay high, but I managed to get the crosshairs about 3 inched below at 20 yards before it would not go any more.
Is it really this hard to get a scope to work on an AK? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Help! I just want to be able to shoot!

Could be the scope rail is tilted up, some of the Romanian rifles have this problem. Rail should be parallel to bore. Also, some scope mounts sit high. Not familiar with yours, just a few things to check.

Try this.
Put rifle in a vise and level it. (Level barrel). Then check level of scope mount.

Ok, thanks. I will try to find a vise. What part of the gun should I put in the vise? I don't want to clamp the wrong part and end up bending it.

barrel, front trunnion, rear trunnion-something solid, not thin and unsubstantial(AKA receiver) just to hold it level. That would be a good start. Wrap it up in towels or rags. We are waiting for a report back!!!

I guess it is the scope mount that is off. It was not level with the barrel, and when I put the boresighter in, and laid a laser pointer on the mount the dots moved apart as I aimed it farther out (I would think this also shows that they are not parallel). I lifted the rear of the scope up, and found that I would have to stick 1/4 of an inch of stuff in there to make it aim correctly.
Are most AKs this hard to work with? I thought all I would have to do is buy some stuff, then stick it on the gun. This thing has been nothing but a pain in the butt. I am almost to the point where I just forget about saving money and take the dang thing to a gunsmith and have him get it to work.
