View Thread: Do Saiga 223 mags fit Galils?

Does anyone know if Saiga 223 mags will fit a Galil? Ive heard that Galils fit Saigas but nothing on the other way around! Any help would be appreciated.

The Saiga magazine has a rear tab that is too short for the Galil magazine catch. The front of the Saiga magazine is designed to work without a bullet guide. For Galil magazines to work in the Saiga the Saiga magazine catch needs to be shortened and a bullet needs to be added to the Saiga front trunnion. This usually keeps the original Saiga magazines from working in the converted Saiga. You could grind the front of the Saiga magazine to clear the bullet guide and you might be able to build up the rear tab on the Saiga magazine to work in the Galil but it might be a bit of work and may not work.

It would help if you were more specific as to which 'Saiga .223' magazine you were enquiring about.

allesennogwat is somewhat incorrect in stating the Saiga need mods to accept Galil mags. The polymer Galil mags work fine in unmodified Saigas with just a small trim of some plastic ribs and a bullet guide installed in the rifle.

The steel Galil magazines require no material removed from the magazine if the magazine catch on the Saiga is shortened but a bullet guide is still required. The Saiga magazine won't clear the Galil bullet guide and the rear magazine tab will have the rear of the magazine too low in the Galil receiver.
