Does any know what is the best way or where to get the Russian red or plum reddish color or stain for some krink handguards?

I was thinking of a Sedona Red by minwax

I've had good luck mixing my own from the info on Ironwood Designs web site, using Rit dyes, alcohol, & shellac. Also use Minwax Red mahogany.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, school has been killing me! Thanks dforge715 for the info I'll have to check that out. Sucks for me I already stained them. I'll get some pic up when I find my USB cable for my camera.

Hey Keith you know you could have included those beautiful grips with the kit. :D no those are beautiful, maybe with any luck on my part you'll still have them for sell when I start working in October . Just can't afford them right now.

Rit dye, sold at places like Joanne's fabrics and my wife's craft (crap) store.

Buy the powder kind, 1 pack of yellow, red, light brown, and dark brown.

Mix the colors into alcohol. Start with yellow, then red (equal parts), then 1/2 a portion light brown, last add dark brown to get the shade you want. My ratio was 1:1:1/2:1/3 (red, yellow, light brown, dark brown)

Use a coffee filter to strain the salt left from the dyes, in between adding each color. I used jelly jars and rubberbands to hold the filters.

Test the stain out on something before you use it. It's best to use a sponge to apply. Finish up with shellac or yellow varnish. A brush will give you that sexy Soviet look.
