View Thread: J&G Anybody?

I just ordered a hex with hand-selected plus-bore and non-counter-bored from J&G. Anybody else have one of these? Man I can't wait!

Hand select means Dave called back to the warehouse from the back door and yelled Mosin Hex HAND SELECT!!!
and everyone back there yells HAND SELECT!!! smiling and laughing...
then they take your new Hex Mosin and roll it in the trough of old cosmoline and wrap it up.
HAND SELECT!!
at least that's my guess...
congrats btw.

Ouch! Exactly why I said I wanted no counter-bore. They will at least have to look for one of those. I'll let you guys know how it turns out, but for $119 for a hex with a plus barrel, well... This will be number 4 in our stable.

I'm glad I can roll up there and do my own "hand select"

Did you? How are they?

I was up there hand selecting Nagant pistols.
My buddy got a PSL so we looked at a handful of those, too.
I didn't get a look at the rifles but they always have better ones to choose from.
They bring out the clunkers first for the rabble but the Punters ask to see the "good ones" and the next batch usually has the keeper.

I ordered the rifle over a week ago, I called yesterday to find out when it shipped and was told that the guy who took my order had gone on vacation and would get to it when he got back. She also mentioned that other ones had been selling since he left, and likely the nice ones were gone. I told her to cancel my order that I had already ordered 2 from their competitors. I hope this doesn't reflect on all of their business practice. We ordered 2 Steyrs and a couple of other guns (my brother and I) from them as well and they are already on their way.

thats such b.s.
i mean, everyone needs vacation, but how much time can it seriously take to get a gun ready to ship and put it in a pile of guns that are already ready to ship?
and do you have a good supplier of the 8x56r?
uncledoodoo
I'm all for vacation, I also expect a company to continue business when someone is gone (take his orders and let someone else fill them). But, whatever, I'm sure they are a good company, just didn't work out this time. I just ordered a case of 800 Czech from Wideners for $184 (shipped). Its supposed to be good stuff.

Century just sent me a couple of Exc. laminated 91/30s at $129 each, and they came in last week. They're both beautiful with shiny crisp bores and really perfect stocks. The shellac is in the usual weak condition, but one, a 1939 Izhvesk has a (probably arsenal-replaced but matching) bolt with no primer ring imprint. I'd just order one straight from Century if I were ordering more.

I ordered a 91/30 from them. 32 Tula. It was counterbored, a tad bit of rust at the barrel base, and the rifling is pretty much flat with the bore. Ammo through J&G was good.

I've paid the extra $10.00 for hand select everytime and gotten a nice gun. Allegedly they look at 5 guns and pick the best. Mine have been clean and good shooters. Except the Nagant pistol. I swear you could throw that thing and have a better chance at hitting the target. It's pretty, though. And I bought it for re-enactment, and have no intention of using it.
The Makarov at 30 meters made a perfect cross, with every hole touching. Then I put two in the same hole.
