View Thread: Rant about Recoil BS (plus new pistol pic)

To start off, I just turned 21 on the 8th and instead of getting drunk I bought myself a pistol. Was very close to getting a Sig P226 Elite Stainless, but found a cheaper just as reliable pistol:

Anyway, later that day I shot it and my uncle's Ballester-Molina .45 (Argentina 1911 circa 1950). There was no difference in recoil at all between the two. The only difference I noticed was the muzzle rise. To clarify, the recoil was nothing. A snub .38 has more IMO. (yes, this was my first time shooting the two calibers, I'm a noob when it comes to shooting pistols)

Now my rant. Why do so many people on so many forums make it out like .45's have SOOO much more recoil than a 9mm? All I read when I was looking was "I'd rather have a 9mm. Less recoil and easier follow-up." Complete bullshit! I mean I'm still glad I got a 9mm, much cheaper ammo and high-cap mags, but damn.

Ummmm muzzle rize sorta = recoil....

ANYWHO certain weapons are weighted diferant and have diferant actions.

a 45 round in a revolver would certainly have more kick than a 9mm in a revolver....... The action of the semi is designed to soak it up.

Happy B day.

The bigger the round, the more complicated the gun mechanism is in order to soak it up.

A 45 has WAY WAY WAY more knock down power and more "kick" than a 9mm. The weapon is designed to allow you to fire it. I myself shot some kind of rino revolver this weekend and was horified.... 557 kazool? or some such name?

Wanna fire a .308 round from a .22 action? enough said.

BTW What the hell did you buy??

I was talking about felt recoil. Muzzle rise doesn't really affect grip or hand fatigue (unless the actual grip sucks). I know about the actions of pistols, man. I was talking of the BS I read about .45's hurting peoples' hands and crap.

The deciding factor in the end for my purchase was cost. I wanted something pretty affordable and reliable.

I like my new pistol and wouldn't have bought it if I didn't. To me a 9mm is just as capable as a .45 if shots are placed correctly. A .45 will make a bigger hole and may hit harder, but a head, chest, or bone shot isn't going to make much difference between the two. I like having more affordable ammo and actually prefer the overpenetration of the 9mm for concealed targets. I bought this gun with SHTF in mind. I may get a .45 if I can find a reliable metal frame (screw the plastic POS ones, I don't care how reliable they are) one that is relatively cheap. The Ballester-Molina was nice and I liked how it had no grip safety.

Hey Trepp, happy birthday. I think you made a wise choice (alcohol vs. weaponry). I made the wrong choice on my 21st birthday. I could have bought an SKS or a Saiga for what I wasted on alcohol on my 21st birthday, and I would have something to be proud of afterwards. Instead, I got a severe headache (like someone set an H-Bomb off between my temples), a welt on my forhead caused by a steel door (don't ask), and all all I had to show for it was a bar tab and some empty liquor bottles.

I think you made the right choice!!!

Several groups including the US army switched to the 45 for a reason.

That being said...... I like my m11 9mm just fine LOL

Percieved recoil in a Service sized .45ACP is quite different than 9mm, at least in my experience. To me 9 seems more snappy and .45 seems more like a push. I do know I have always shot .45 better than 9mil.

Recoil can be MUCH higher in a small handgun in a major caliber. The worst I have fired is my brothers S&W 340 PD with 105 crison trace laser grips and full bore .357 PD rounds. That sucker has bloodied more than a few hands. Of course the nice part is your hand is too numb to feel any pain after the first cylinders worth.

BTW Nice CZ.

You are on the right course too. I kick myself when ever I think of the weapons I could have had if I had spent my money on guns and ammo instead of bitches and beer...
