View Thread: Valmet .223 mags

It is very frustrating that Valmet's magazines are so hard to find. I went to one of the gun shows and was able to locate only one 40 rounds .223 mag, which was priced at $ 195. Unreal. Such a nice rifle, pity if I will be forced to sell it.
Do you have any ideas what could be the alternative? Some kind of adapter? I will appreciate good advises. Thank you.

Best,

There are East German and Romanian 5.56 magazines modified to work in the Valmet. They work better than Galil magazines. The factory 5.56 Valmet magazines aren't made all that well. You might be able to get some of the Bulgarian or US plastic magazines to work but I haven't tried that. You don't have a magazine that works in your rifle? The 40 round magazines are converted HK-33 magazines. The steel Galil magazines usually feed too low in the Valmet but not always. The plastic Galil magazines seem to work better but require removing the ribs on the top front of the magazine.

Thank you allesennogwat for quick reply!

Can you give me a link? Where I can get those mags? Is it hard to modify?

Thanks again!

You can try these. They are the cheapest and don't always work well but they work alright and a bit filing on them might be required to get them to fit.

Many of us have converted the German Weiger mags and Bulgarian waffle mags in .223 to fit Valmet .223 weapons. They are a much cheaper way to acquire a mag for your Valmet than a factory mag. The conversion is simply a matter of filing down the lugs.

The 40 round mag made by LIQ or MCP (they are not factory Valmet mags)should not cost you more than $75 - $100. They work well.

Do not use Galil mags at all. I can provide you with lengthy detail as to why if needed. Some guys use them. Eventually, they will an experience a failure that will cause severe damage to the weapon and possiby user. No matter what you do in converting the Galil mag, the feed ramp is at the wrong angle.
