View Thread: FA parts ...

I have my Krinkov now, is there any parts that are full auto that I need as replacements, that a normal parts kit will not have. For instance FTFindustries.com has several different full auto parts sets for class 3 owners. Do I need one of these?

The AK full auto parts usually don't wear out. There a quite a few different versions and not all of them are interchangeable. You'd have to be certain exactly which parts fit yours.

If you have a Rate Reducer in your Trigger Group get yourself a Good Com Bloc *(Hint Polish) Rate Reducers and Cut Off The Hammer Catcher that swing pivots and cut it at the base of the arm. Use this as your spacer in your Trigger Group and save your Original Rate Reducer For back to original sale Cond. if you ever do sell.
Rate Reducers SUCK on a FA AK as you no doubt already have found. Nothing worst than a Slow Firing AK going Bang-----Bang----Bang when it should truely be singing Bang,Bang,Bang without the Hicup Pause.

Russian and Bulgarian 5.45 Krinkov's have a fake rate reducer that only acts as a spacer and spreads the stress of the trigger against the bottom of the receiver. The hammer and auto sear are different front most 7.62 AK's. Some ak's have a sleeve through the trigger and disconnector and some do not.

I don't understand what all that meant. But i do have a Bulg. 7.62...so it may be important.

Your trigger parts may or may not be the factory ones for a Bulgarian 7.62 Krinkov.
Do you know the difference in the 5.45 and 7.62 hammers? The hammer faces are different and the auto sears have different "timing" or a different engagement with the hammer and 5.45 auto sear has a step where it catches the hammer. Most single hook trigger Krinkov's have a dummy rate reducer. It doesn't have the pinned on hammer catch and acts only as a spacer. The milled receivers usually have double hook triggers and no rate reducers. Some fire control groups have a sleeve through the trigger and disconnector. These parts have larger pin holes than the non sleeved versions. The stamped receiver auto sear has to clear the center support. The milled receiver auto sear isn't always shaped to clear a center support. The stamped one might fit a milled receiver but the milled one usually won't fit a stamped receiver.

Does it help any to know that Hard Times Armory did the conversion? Sometimes you can identify what was done by who did it. For example RDTS did MP5 conversions a certain way...a little different than Fleming. Are you familiar with them and maybe how they liked to do their work?
You see, I'm a bit frustrated because I'm familiar with HK's and AR/M16's, but Ak's are new to me, so I'm trying to learn. But with sooo many different models...Krink, AKS, AKM,...Bulgarian, Yugo, Russian, etc. I'm getting confused and don't know what spares to look for in a democratic environment. I may end up signing for an AK gunsmithing course.

I know who they are. They used whatever parts were available. What type of AK did it begin as? It's a transferable pre - May 1986? There were a lot of Chinese full auto parts around back then but they aren't easy to find now. Also some of the conversions back then had the auto sear axis pin holes slightly off and the parts had to be fitted.

The model says AKS-223, the manufacturer is SWD out of Atlanta. It's a regular civilian Form 4 transfer. Hard times Armory is Stamped on the bottom of the reciever. There's also a light stamp that says Armiaugar, Italy Mod. AP03

Sounds like it's Chinese. Most likely a Poly Tech that didn't feed properly but the receiver already took 7.62x39 magazines. They only had to shorten the ejector to clear the 7.62 bolt.

In a Chinese stamped receiver you can use milled receiver double hook trigger, milled receiver wide disconnector, milled receiver hammer, but the Chinese used a special auto sear. It sort of looks like a cut away milled receiver one to clear the center support but it also has the bottom spring hole moved to clear the center support. You'll need to use a stamped receiver auto sear but for a standard 7.62x39 AKM. Not a milled and not a 5.45 one.

I did a bit of research, still learning. It seems to be a AKS-74S in .223 Cal. but then somebody maybe added a K-Var 7.62 kit? I saw that there were alot of these caliber change kits going around some time ago. Any of this sound right?

Yes that's it. Very common. The Chinese auto sear might be the most difficult part to find. It can be replaced by a 7.62 AKM auto sear. The trigger , hammer and disconnector should be a double hook milled receiver type to fit the stamped Chinese receiver.

this might seam lie a dumb question, bc I don't even know what the full parts function is except that the rate reducer slows it down so the carrier can seat fully before firing. Are you saying some people take them out? Is that safe? Also, I have about 7 little round springs left over that I can't figure what they are for.DO these help the trigger return? thanks
Etek
7 springs? Wierd.
Rate reducer is not needed or used on Chinese AKs as the receiver is thicker and there is less carrier bounce due to different harmonics due to less receiver flex.

If you have NO Idea How Your FA AK Works Leave It Alone As You Might Get Hurt. :_penguin:

What John said...
Try to make friends with someone who's been shooting an AK for a while and have him look it over. You may have to do a 5320 form 'trip' to Knob Creek, for example.

I pointed quite a few of my customers with AKs, Valmets, M-10s and ARs to SWD in the early 80s.
As I remember they used Chinese parts on the AKs and Valmets as they had no rate reducers.

Hmmm...mine has a rate reducer.

The Krinkov is suppose to have a faux rate reducer. The Chinese receiver is made for a double hook trigger but can be changed. Most pre-May 1986 conversions used the then available Chinese full auto parts but they could be changed. You need the auto sear and trigger / disconnector that matches the hammer. In a 7.62x39 trigger group a standard AKM group is likely. The 5.45 hammer has slightly different timing and notches are different.
The double hook triger and single hook trigger parts are different. I looked at the website and the pictures are not correct for the parts they claim to be selling. I foubt they would be the right ones if you bought them from there.

Ahhh...patience my friend. You obviously are not aware that I'm a technical retard. I have to wait for my daughter to post pics. She's at summer camp. She took her camera with her.
