AKBLUE
Looks prertty slick and sleek. :small_gri What color is that called?

mosinutty
Duracoat snow gray. The picture doesn't do it justice. It looks a bit darker in person.

euroking99
what kind of break is that? it looks like an svd or maybe L1a1? either way, it looks sick as hell. Thatll take out them zombies with style

mosinutty
L1A1 9/16 24 threads with bayo lug removed. I looked all over for a low profile scope mount without the see through rail and finally found one on evil bay. I had to drill and tap the dust cover but it gave me the look I wanted. If I had the money I would have mounted a small holographic sight to the rail.

swabbie
Nice job..that;s breathin new life into an old design :wink_smal

no more chasin the muzzle brakes downrange :tongue_sm

mosinutty
Thanks Swabb! Fullautotogo sent me some super thread locker for the muzzle break, It ain't coming off........ever! :small_gri I also used it on the scope mount screws. I'm hoping to go to the range this weekend weather permitting and give her a try. In comparison this sucker weighs half of what my converted Yugo does. The Yugo feels like an artillery piece!:p
Dad converted a Norinco the same way with the same paint but his stock is OD green, but it really looks good. Waiting for his scope mount to come in so that I can get it mounted.

fullautotogo
Damn! Looks real good Mosin. That brake looks bitchin on there. WE NEED A RANGE REPORT MAN! :laugh_sma

Here's a picture of my romy. Converted to take ak mags, and shortened the barrel, socom moly resin, still gotta get some optics(thinking holo sights) on it and get it to the range. I have sighted the irons in and it eats whatever I throw in it. (And don't make fun of the comforter my wife does the decorating.) :rofl_smal

mosinutty
Thanks fullauto! I feel your pain on the females decorative taste, I mean what the hell is wrong with a mossy oak pattern comforter? I actually put one in my shopping cart at Bass Pro one time, Needless to say it never made it to the register!:cry_small

I went outside after work and bore sighted the Romy convert. It was a challenge. I put a target up on a tree about 25 yards from my picnic table and rested the rifle in my heavy rest. Removed the dust cover and bolt assembly then lined up the bore with the bulls eye. I then put a ratchet strap across the rifle to hold it in place, On target. Re-installed the guts and cover then adjusted the red dot to bull. Weather permitting I'm going to the range this weekend! I can't stand it, I've got to try it out.:D I also have some new reloads to try.
I like the mag conversion on your Romy, Is that a Duracoat finish? The black on black is really cool!

fullautotogo

Moly Resin socom black. I asked the wife about the mossy oak comforter, she just laughed! :laugh_sma

swabbie
God help you if you get any oil on that comforter. Nice take on the SKS as well :D

Made it to the range Sunday to test out the Romy. It functioned great and everything stayed in place. I didn't expect the scope base or the flash suppressor to move but you never know until you test it out. We shot some Wolf surplus and some Yugo surplus to sight in our scopes. We both picked up some NC star scopes with the illuminated cross hairs, The one pictured is a BSA, The new one looks much better. The guns did great and grouped well within an 8" bull @ 100 yards. And nothing on either gun came loose. We then shot some of our reloads that also shot great. Lastly we shot some of our cast bullets and were not impressed with the accuracy. We need to play with the loads on these. All in all we were very pleased with our rifles, It was a good day!

fullautotogo
Good deal Mosin, Glad to here someone made it to the range. :rofl_smal I am almost done with the kitchen and am gonna try to get to the range saturday evening, after some turkey hunting in the morning. Got a 150 rounds in 10 round lots loaded up with different charges and different powders gonna see which one is the best shooter. If nothing else it will be nice to just smell some powder burning. :rofl_smal

Hey fullauto, did u shorten the barrel on your Romy yourself? Did you get it recrowned and rethreaded or what? It pretty much looks like my cousins paratrooper but with a ak74 style break. Also, what happened to the MV and accurracy? Did it increases, decrease or no change at all?

And to mosin, I just ordered an L1A1 flash hider for my yugo. is it a straight switch over or is something else required?

To all SKS owners, keep up the awesome customizations. I am getting too many new ideas

mosinutty
Hey euroking! A fellow on another thread told me that the Yugo has 14/1 right hand threads under the grenade launcher. If you ordered an L1A1 flash suppressor with 14/1 threads it will thread right on. Although the suppressors were made with different size threads. The gun I have pictured had no threads so I ordered a flash suppressor with 9/16 24 threads and a threading kit (Die, and thread alignment tool) and threaded my barrel after removing the sight/bayo lug base.
Hope you get a big tom fullauto!:small_gri

Yep, shortened the barrel myself. Chucked her up in the lathe and chopped a few inches off. Recrowned it with a target crown reamer and then lapping compound. That was the easy part, I didn't have an extra ak trigger guard to rob the mag catch off of so I made it. As far as I can tell comparing para's and standard barrels in the past I'll lose about 100 fps +or- in mv. Accuracy is the same as barrel length has little to do with short range accuracy. Follow up shots are easier because of the brake. Let us see yours when you get er' done. :wink_smal

I just thought that I would like to show a couple of pics of my SKS in the process of customization. Enjoy

It has an L1A1 flash suppressor, chicom 75rd drum, el cheapo bipod ( until I can remove the original and replace it with a decent one), ati dragunov style stock, and chicom sling. It's a yugo 59/66a1 and it has not been modified to take ak mags. That is a preban chicom sks drum that has only been used four times since 1994.

mosinutty
Sweet! Looks good euro! Man I would love to have one of those drums.:D

euroking99
Thanks mosinutty. I got the flash hider after i saw yours. now all I need is another yugo barrel to shorten and blind pin the L1A1 FH to it. Oh yeah, and standard euro bbl components. The drum is not for sale, but I do have another 75rd that might be in the short future. I believed it to be a 100rd, but it only held like 80 or 79, so my mistake. Plus I think it may be a little late to complain to the seller since I got it in Pomona in like 1990 or something.
