I’m making friends with some 07/SOT’s so I’m sure it’s going to happen. There like crack dealers. They give a taste to get you hooked.

just think elk.......misty warm fall morning.....your behind your 8mm mg 34 on bipod with your buddy feeding belts and spot the herd cresting another ridge line at about 300 meters.....you've tagged out for 15 of your friends in about 30 seconds and need a mule train to haul all the meat and racks off the mountain...... :cool_smal :wink_smal :small_gri the possibilities are endless

Full Autos are tons of fun to shoot, only problem is the ammo gets real expensive, real quick.

That is awesome, I am hoping that I get a chance to shoot a full auto AK in the Army. I'm not that excited about the M16, I have always been more of a .30 caliber guy.

Don't limit your ambitions. Nothing is more fun than a belt-fed machinegun (except a belt-fed 40mm grenade launcher: see MK 19). Try to get your hands on a M 249 SAW, M 240B, M 2 (those are lots of fun), MK 19, and if you're really lucky a .30 cal mini gun. Those are the things I miss about the Army.

Best part about full-autos in the Army is that you aren't buying the ammunition. There were days that I took my M 249 to the range and dumped thousands of rounds (the Lt ordered thousands of rounds more than we needed). We finished qualifying and had over 10,000 more rounds left. It was a snowy day and the Lt got us together and told us that we weren't going to dig around in the snow to recover every piece of brass we expended, we were going to burn up the extra rounds and write the papers off as all rounds expended. He ordered all the SAW gunners to the line with our spare barrels and told us to hold the triggers down for 200 rd bursts, change the barrels and do it again. One idot didn't sign out his spare barrel that day, but didn't want the Lt to know it. After about 600 rds, his barrel started to glow (it was after dark). He kept firing it, packing snow on it as he went. He warped the crap out of the barrel and had to replace it.

I remember the first time I ever fired a full auto, it was during a relief trip to Russia in 1992, and I got to try out two magazines on full auto from a fixed-stock AK-74. It amazed me how easy it was to control that weapon during full auto fire. That big compensator on the AK-74 really does the job, I guess.

Also, I remember when I got my first gun, a 1939 k98k, converted to .30-06 for the Norwegian army, fun to shoot, but the ammo was very expensive. Later I joined the army, and there we were given AG-3's [Norwegian-configuration HK G3 A3] and MG-3's. I mean, the MG-3 had a firing rate of 17-22 ronds per second, and we could shoot about as much as we wanted in certain days!! The MG-3 fires so rapidly, when you're behind that weapon squeezing the trigger, all you can hear is a big "BRRRRRRP!" And someone else payed for the ammo! That was great.

Also, the AG-3 is a good and accurate weapon, but in terms of full auto, out of 10 rounds fired in a single row, two hit the man-sized target at 30 meters, and the rest went up to the right and went MIA. The AG-3 is powerful as hell, but it has a muzzle climb that makes the full auto function somewhat unnecessary. Still fun to shoot, though, but the AK's are much much more easy and fun to shoot on full auto.

BTW, nowadays I can get about 5-6 rounds for the AK for the price of two .30-06 rounds, so the AK is a bargain all over.

I went to a shooting function out in Arizona last year and got to fire an M4A1 with a suppressor on it. That was really fun and odd being that I was shooting a high power carbine and didn't have to wear hearing protection..!

I really wish my first time had been with an AK, but there were no full autos to be had there that day.

I have always wondered about my ability to control the trigger and bursts. I have heard a lot of BS from folks saying how difficult and outright impossible it is to perfectly control 2, 3 or 4 shot bursts. But I found that it is no problem at all, even with my first time, I was able to bark out exactly the amount of lead I wanted with each pull.

I had the chance to fire a full auto PMK, but the guy wanted $50 just to fire it and a dollar a round. I had my own Czech 7.62x54r ammo, but he would only let you use his. His excuse was he knew his ammo was quality and when I pointed out that I had the same exact type, he just shut up. I didn't fire it, didn't want to give him the satisfaction.
