I recently found some Mosin Nagant muzzlebrakes on the internet, but they all say they are for the M44. Would they fit any other models, like an M91/30 or M38?

Don't mess with them. They come loose damage you rifle and front sight base.

I'm big on with allesennogwat on this. Unless it screws on the muzzle and you thread your barrel to accept it, it will probably blow off the end of your rifle and end up downrange like all the others do. The set-screw method of attaching the brake will definitely fail. If you're lucky it won't damage your rifle.
Shizzlore
Wow, they suck that bad huh? How do people get away with making designs that fail so badly anyway?
How would I go about threading my barrel if I ever choose to do that?
swabbie
they are good for exercise..I learned that the hard way :laugh_sma ..gotta go downrange and retrieive them
listen to these guys
even if you already had all of the tools(lathe,TAT,dies) it probably wouldn't be worth your time
spend your money on ammo while you can still get it...or learn to cast and reload
Shizzlore
Yeah, I'm not to interested in doing it, I just like learning about stuff I guess.
hiwaytahell
IMHO those just don't look right on a mosin.
Shizzlore
The reason I WOULD want one was because I imagine it would make the muzzle flash look really cool at night.

Like the guy's said Shizzlore, Stay away from the Mosin muzzle breaks. I learned the hard way. Bought one and gave it a try, the first shot wiped it out. So like an idiot I mailed it back for a replacement and ......Yep tried again. Guess what happened? 1st shot it was scrap metal!:cry_small

I saw one next to me once on an M44, and it looked WAY cool. The guy fired, and I think I lost consciousness for a minute or so from the muzzle blast redirected RIGHT AT ME. The shooter said it reduced recoil significantly, but he had to say it three times before I heard him. That was WITH earplugs.
Next time at the range I had two of them. The first one went downrange on the fourth shot. The second brake went downrange on the first shot. I left them there.
Shizzlore
Hahaha, wow. They almost seem unsafe!

Any of the twist on ones suck like everyone said. This model which screws on however does work: http://curioandrelicfirearmsforum.yuku.com/forum/viewtopic/id/11354
Here's another site that sells them: http://www.combathunting.com/MOSIN_NAGANT-Mosin_Nagant_Rifle_Muzzle_Brake_4_23_Long.html
I have one and it works great and won't launch down range. Have recently seen them for sale at a couple of fun shows too.
If your looking to reduce the recoil, one of these helps too: http://www.combathunting.com/MOSIN_NAGANT-Mosin_Nagant_Rubber_Butt_Pad.html
Just FYI, we also have a couple of MN M44 and were trying to come up with a cost effective way to reduce the muzzle flash / blast at night (which frankly they look like a howitzer firing). One of my friends threaded his for an old HK G3 FH (which are pretty cheap) and it did reduce the flash about 50%, but requires threading the muzzle and could affect the collector's value. We found that the aftermarket (not mil-spec) clamp on M-1 carbine cone shape flash hiders fit the MN carbines! Really helps keeping the blast / flash "down range" and not an issue to fellow shooters on the firing line, as well as helping to reaquiring the target at night too. A plus being that it doesn't require any perm mods to the rifle (for those collector's out there). Just something to consider.

although i have looked at these for my polish m44 it really begs the question, if the muzzle blast and recoil are too much why not reload some plinking rounds or find a gun that dont hurt??
imo half the joy of the nagant is the ridiculous muzzle blast and recoil!
if i want to do serious shooting with it ill use handloads, but for pure fun, muzzle blast ftw! :D

the psl has a muzzle brake and we get the same problem. makes me laugh when people shoot next to me :laugh_sma

Actually those are the ones I left downrange. The set screws cannot hope to hold the brake on against the tremendous impact of the muzzle blast. I wouldn't try to dampen the recoil with anything beyond a shoulder-pad or a butt-stock pad.

My-Rifle,
I'm really surprised, as we've put hundred's of rounds through ours without any problem whatsoever. Our's only has the one turn nut screw btw, not two. Maybe you used a different model or they were defective?
Goodoleboy
Just my humble opinon, but I can't wrap my mind around putting a break on a Mosin. I would think that you would have to thread the barrel. That 7.62X54 creates a little more pressure than I would think a screw on job would handle.

I've got one on my M44 that slides over the barrel and has a peice that screws down onto itself behind the front sight. Shot hundreds of rounds through it and it's still tight. I did have to dremmel out to inside a little b/c there was some metal shards hangin in it. I got it for the cool factor and to reduce recoil on the unburnt power flying out the end of the muzzle. Works for me. Flame all you want. :) :) :)

Hey Enscribe, this is the Mosin-Nagant forum. The flame wars are for the AK forums :)

I bought a muzzle brake for one of my Mosin 44s in one shot this is what happend.
I picked it up about 25ft down range, and the front sight was GONE.

After I spent $78 to get the front sight put back on I have decided not to put a muzzle brake on any of my Mosin Nagants.
I wish I could find the guy from that gun show that sold me that piece of S#!T, I would show him some other place it fits.

Wow! That brings back memories, Mirror image of the two I wiped out. At least the folks I bought them from gave me a refund.
