View Thread: Question: Optics for 50 BMG

cjaholic
Well, it took about 6 mo but she is paid in full and being built now. Time to look at optics. I was looking at Nightforce, (if your going to spend the dough, go all out).

To those that shoot 50 BMG:

How far do you shoot on a regular basis?
What kind of optics do you use?
If you were to do it again, what would you try/ do different?
Anybody feel there optics are over powered?

Thanks

I inherited mine, model 99 Barrett with Bushnell scope.
not as nice as yours and the last time the firearm was shot by the former owner he blew the reticle out of it. I have to say though they were really excellent with the warrenty though I think I'm going to look for something cheaper for next spring. We've shot the thing only out too 200 I'm afraid. I've heard of one long range place in our state. Lots and lots of trees.

Thats why I want a Nightforce, to handle the recoil. I have a spot I go to shoot where I can get out to about 800 yds. Shoot alot of the .30's around 500-600 yds.

I already bought a set of Badger's max 50 rings to mount it so I dont have to worry about it moving.

I just cant figure out what zoom range I want.

I got a Leupold Mark 4 M1 Ultra 16X before there were any Nightforce scopes I knew. It's a good choice for an expensive one. There's too much recoil to mess with a cheap scope.

I've shot a mate's that has a Leupold VX-III mounted & he's had no problems with it.

I have a M82, I use the Leupold Mk 4 LR/T. It's been fine, but I've only put about 250 rds through it. I do know from talking to people on FCSA site that if you don't but the right scope, the recoil will kick the reticle out of calibration. Apparently it has happened commonly to the cheaper scopes.
