Saiga spare parts?

Can anybody tell me where I can pick up an extra Saiga top cover and a bolt carrier for a 7.62x39 rifle? I'm going to attempt to mount a top cover sight as well as weld on an SKS charging handle to the carrier. I'm afraid if I screw up on one of these projects I wont have a working rifle. I have read that the bolt stems are different of different makes and calibers and I am fine with ordering a part that was made in another country as long as it will fit properly. Also I'd like to be able to return things to original if I don't like one or both of the mods.

A Romanian AKM, Hungarian AMD or Bulgarian AK-74 cover will fit. They are thinner but fit. Most of the thinner ribbed covers will fit. For a bolt carrier a 5.45mm AK-74 bolt carrier will fit the Saig and the Saiga bolt. There are some heavy Tantal covers that are exactly the same but many are thin and ribbed. The 5.45mm Tantal bolt carrier will fit also.

Thanks that helps a lot. Please excuse the newbness but will a Romanian 5.45 carrier with the upswept charging handle fit or are there differences?

The 5.45 bolt carrier will fit but not the bolt. Don't mess with the Romanian bolt carriers that have welded gas pistons. The up swept bolt handle is for better hand clearance with the side folding stock.

Do you mean my 7.62 bolt will not fit in that carrier or did you mean the 5.45 bolt will not work in my rifle? I understand the 5.45 bolt would not work for a 7.62 gun. The reason I am asking about the Rommy specifically is that when I weld on the SKS handle to the AK carrier I figured it would be easier and a bit stronger to grind down the existing handle to fit in the "slot" of the SKS handle. Also I understand the reason to stay away from the carriers with the welded on gas pistons but are all of them like that or is that some sort of gun show special?
Lastly will a Bulgy top cover for a milled receiver fit my Saiga? I ask because its the only smooth top cover Kvar has right now and I figure that would be easier to attach a sight to than a ribbed one.

The 5.45 Romanian bolt carrier will fit the 7.62 Saiga. The only ones with welded gas pistons are the ones converted by Century to high capacity magazines and pistol grips. if you are going to weld an SKS cocking handle a Bulgarian or Polish 5.45 bolt carrier will work.

Center Fire <centerfiresystems.com> has this top cover with scope mount. I tried one and gave it away because it would not hold zero upon disassembly... Might have worked better with some creativity but I just bought a side mount and I like it much better...

Anyone have other sources for a VEPR top cover. I have been modifying mine to prevent cartridge damage during ejection... I have it down to just a ding on the mouth of the cartridge which is easily fixed, but the bolt is now exposed when closed... Not sure if this is a problem as I am not rolling around in the dirt with the gun (at least not yet)...

I have been looking at a Saiga 12 piston recoil spring as it has an intigral sliding cover that might work with my modified top cover and close everything up when the bolt is closed... I do not know where to buy a Saiga 12 recoil spring. Any suggestions?
