View Thread: Dan Wesson .357?

I was given the aforementioned pistol as a gift. It's my first pistol. The person who gave it to me picked it up on the cheap because there is some finish issues and the pistol is missing the front sight. Can anyone tell me where to pick up the front sight blade and other pertinent info for the pistol?

Dan Wesson revolvers are nice guns. Unfortunately, they seem to have converted completely to making 1911 clones. Numrich for parts then:

These guys seem to know a little about your new blaster:

Numrich...eeerrrrr...World Parts might have some stuff.

Back in the day I had a friend that was a taxi drive in Philly. He bought a Dan Wesson because of the various barrel lengths.

When they first came outt I was a bit put off by them....they were priced similarly to S&W and Colt 357's. I was thinking it was all just a gimmick.

But they all seemed to have held up rather well. And when you think that each barrel has a different use...maybe it 's a pretty good idea after all.

My cousin had the pistol pack, those were very nice revolvers, fit and finish were excellent as was the accuracy; they are hard to find now days.

I'd love to find a pistol pack. I can say it's a nice pistol. Someone tried to re-blue it. Didn't do a very good job. Once I find a front sight and barrel tool I'll strip, buff, polish, and blue it to a proper finish. Problem is I don't understand why the end of the barrel is the way it is. Both sides look like this. Almost as if someone tried to blue over silver-solder and rust?

seemed that there were quite a few dw's around when my cousin was shopping for a .357 a couple mos. ago. very reasonably priced too. i think we ran across 2 pistol packs. our problem arose in that none were in the prk and dw does not have any revolvers on the handgun roster. check gunsamerica.

I know your topic is .357, but any ideas on what tore up this .44?

thanks,

Double charge reload? Ouch!

The cylinder being thinned in the case and thickened at the bullet end is
what will tell the tale. It does look like a simple over pressured load but I am
no expert. It may have just seen a ruger super redhawk load. Smiths and Colts
are physically smaller guns and will not handle loads developed for the bigger
heavier guns. A light charge with a powder such as H110 can also cause extreme
over pressure.

Wyldman
It could also have been a timing issue where the cylinder didn't line up with the bore properly. Most of the time this will cause shaving of the bullet, but if the timing is off badly enough...KABOOM!

The front sight should be easy to modify a sight from NUMRICH or Brownells and silver solder on. I it it just the red part - get red plastic or any plastic - shape to fit - glue in. I have Dan Wessons with removalable barrels and a Dan Wesson with a fixed barrel.

I found a front sight from an old-timer at the last fun show. I'm now figuring out how to disassemble it so I can give it a smooth blue. That 44 looks like it was a nice gun.

Make sure to post a pic when you get it done!
