For me to build a krink?
I really want to build a bulgy AKS-74U, but it looks like nodak is sold out of 5.45 sidefolder receivers. (and has been for a while) I was probably going to pick up a kit from copes now that i have a bit of money to spend.. should i jump on it, or find another project? either way what are your thoughts?

if you can get a kit (and justify the prices) i say go for it!
and post pics :)

if you want a AKS-74U, better get the kit, while the getting is good.......as for the receiver, you can wait on NDS.....or do what what folks did before NDS was even a thought, buy a standard 74 receiver and modify it for the side folder. that is what I had done to my OOW 74 receiver.

well.. im willing to wait for the NDS..especially for such a high dollar kit. I have to wait for the SBR paperwork anyways.
I just hope they will be availible again. i know the website says temporarily sold out.. but who knows with my luck..

Hey guys.. quick question
For those of you who have built an SBR on a Nodak receiver.
Did you engrave YOUR name and address on the receiver?
Or is nodak's info already engraved on the receiver sufficient?
after all they are the builder/manufacturer of the receiver.. which is actually considered the "gun"
right????

I didn't use Nodak's receiver, went with the Firing Line milled. The answer is the same regardless. Unless Nokak makes a complete SBR for you, you are the maker. You will have to have your info engraved.

i would get a kit before there all gone or even more expensive than they are already, finding a reveiver is the easy part or you could allways just make one your self. as for the SBR engraving, who ever manufacturs the gun or your paperwork goes threw is what is on the receiver. i have an AR with a 10.5 barrel that has "S**** Mfg Yuma AZ" engraved on the side because there the guys who i went threw. i'm not sure what has to be there if you do it your self.

Hey guys. I got the kit today. Its a nice one...demilled very cleanly. According to the serial this one was made in '98. The grips look to be painted brown.. with the upper being laminated and the lower solid. Looks like theres some pretty looking wood under the paint.. but ive ordered some russian laminated furniture already.
I dont know if it's an optical illusion but it almost looks like the front sight is canted to the left a bit.
would that be fixable?

Can you bind your own from a flat and SBR it then or will it need to have S# on it?
drjarhead
You could bend your own but it would need an SN for the paperwork.
If you buy the SBR already manufactured, there would be manufacturers name on it.
If you build it, or have it built for you on a rec and kit you purchased, then YOU are the maker. Your name, city and state must be engraved on the receiver and there are standards for how deep and how large those must be.

For the engraving check out www.orion-arms.com. They do some nice work.

I read somewhere you can take the blank receiver to one of those engraving places they have at malls or a place that sells trophies and let them engrave it for you. My understanding is that the letters have to be a certain size and depth, what they are, I don't know. Use the engraving or stamping on an AK you already have for reference.
