View Thread: AK Building Services?

I know this post is going to be long but I feel that a little background about my situation is in order to put my request into context.

I received a kit from ORF about 2 months back and it's a beautiful condition AK-74 Bulgarian kit (and I read cntrailrider's post today about ORF and my heart froze- won't be dealing with them again! I then remembered that they double billed me and sent me two kits and it took me days to get it all straightened out and get the charge off. Thought it was a fluke but holyshit guess not!)

Luckily for me, I have the kit now and here's my dilemma. I am on active duty and facing a deployment in the near future (most likely Afghanistan where the real badass mothers are). I would like to get very proficient with the AK family and plan on using this rifle as my training aid. I bought thousands of rounds from AIM while it was available and cheap so that's why I'm using the 74 instead of a 47. I have already ordered and received the recommended NoDak receiver and the rifle is all boxed up ready to go. I have been having a tough time finding a builder that can complete my rifle in the next few months. I was even quoted at 10+ months by one builder I was really considering!

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand the state of the industry and know that is not an unfair estimate or anything out of the ordinary. However, my situation is a little unique because I am depending upon this weapon for training in a real-world application, not my local shooting range, and my time-table for this is short. Does anyone know of a builder who does quality work and is not so back-logged? I appreciate any information!

Where do you live?

If you live around Houston, Texas, there are build parties all the time.

KiowaScout
Nalioth, thanks but I'm in Alabama. I'm about to be re-stationed to either Kansas, Georgia, or Kentucky in the next month.

I have limited experience with mechanically inclined tasks personally, so I just fly the helicopters and let the maintenance guys tell me what I've broken!

Thanks Etek, I'll give him a shout.

I wouldn't get my shorts wadded up over needing a piece for "familiarization."

About 5 minutes should do it.
I seen barefoot guys in black PJs handle them pretty well.
They were designed for mass use by commie peasant armies.

I didn't like 'em much in actual use. Preferred my CAR 15.

Has our military stopped training with firearms?

Has our military stopped training with firearms? If you've not noticed, the OP is a propellerhead. http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/8510/nyahsmilie.gif

Draw your own conclusions.

Why is it you give a Roto Wing Guy a A Good Set Of Kings and The Best Dave Clarks going 120 Kts. at 500 feet and he sounds like Foster Brooks at 3 AM. And the 737 Guy same setup going .74 Mach at Flt. Level 350 sounds like Barry White singing "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love Babe". ;)
