View Thread: US made AK BHO Followers?

With BHO followers in such great demand, why hasn't a US company made them recently? The same goes for fixed 20 round 'star' magazines for the SKS. Both would seem to be easy enough to manufacture in quantity and quite profitable, considering the prices they are selling for.

They do right here (http://www.tapco.com/proddesc.aspx?id=2f2755b4-b059-4bdd-adc2-861344c3f340). You just have to grind off the protrusions inside the mag body, just below the feed lips, to allow the follower to rise high enough to catch the bolt.

But doesn't that only work if you have a Chinese or Yugo follower with a flat backside? Are you saying that ANY steel follower will work for a BHO device if I just grind off the metal bumps inside the magazine body? If so, that's the first time I've heard it stated that way.

Aren't those Tapco followers plastic and not steel?

Thanks for your response. I should have been more specific and stressed US made STEEL BHO followers. The Tapco ones may not work well, based on this.

Yeah, I didn't know you wanted them in metal. I have three of the Tapco plastic followers, and they work just fine for me.

Metal may be stronger, but manufacturing them from raw, or modifying originals, would be an expensive redundancy when injection-molded plastics are readily available. And even with steel followers, the body will have to be modified to allow the follower access to the bolt. A fact that the commentators at CTD didn't understand.

Maybe someone around here, who has modified their own followers, may be equipped, ready and willing to modify yours for you.

Good luck in finding what you seek.
