View Thread: Scored a Russian!
mosinutty
Went to a local shop Friday that had some Romy SKS's come in. They had two on the rack, one of them was really rough, looked like someone had beat the crown of the barrel with a hammer! The other looked a lot better other than the missing finish on some of the stock. I decided to buy it for a re-finish job later. My dad had found a Russian SKS the weekend before and I was still pouting about it.
I decided to go to a gun show on Saturday and do a quick run through just to laugh at the crazy prices, and they were crazy! Romy AK's for $750.00, Mosin M-44's for $160.00! I was about half way through the show when I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in a while. This guy does nothing but buy and sale gun's, it is his hobby. He brings a lot of gun's by the house for me to fix before he re-sales them and I have got some nice ones from him over the years.
We started talking about SKS's and I told him about Dad's. He told me he had just left another friends house who had a Russian SKS for sale for $400.00. I told him I was very interested but would not have the cash for a couple of weeks. He told me that he would buy the gun and I could pay him when ever! He called me this afternoon and said he had the rifle and would bring it over. I paid him $100.00 until pay day in a couple of weeks. It is a really nice 1955 Tula. I was so excited, I never thought I would own one! The finish on the stock has a few small blemishes and the rest of the gun is perfect! The serial # is kinda special because it has all the same digits. CM2222 and all the parts are matching. It also has CCCP87137 C.D.I Swan, VT. on the side. does anyone know what that represents? I will post pic's tomorrow if I get off work in time. I'm a real happy camper!

Yah, it is the importer's mark and the serial number the importer applied to the rifle, as the ATF will not allow Cyrlic numbers in the serial, so they guns need to be renumbered.
Good deal on the gun! Does it have the black bolt carrier, or is it sill in the white? Mine was refurbed with a black bolt carrier, looks real cool.
mosinutty
It still has the white bolt and no re-ferb mark. The stock has 4 stamps around the cross bolt? Before I saw the rifle I was hoping it might be a bring back. Wish I could call in sick to work today and go to the range, But I've got to make mortgage and buy food and all that silly stuff!:( I will post pic's today if I can get home at a decent hour.

Looking forward to pics and a range report too!
Nice to have friends who do layaway.

All work and no play makes Pat a dull boy!:cry_small Ok Swabb I promise I won't play hookie. But I've got about a month's worth of gun work to do. Oh well, maybe the family vacation this year will be reloading and working on mil-surp rifles!:laugh_sma Now all I have to do is convince the ladies of the house.
The Tula pictured has some kind of after market dust cover screw that replaced the original latch, so I have a latch ordered. I don't want to do anything to altar the rifle, but I would like to repair some of the blemishes on the stock. I have a product I picked up at Knob creek that you sand into the bad areas of the stock with emory cloth and it repairs the area. I'll try a hidden area and see if it works.;)

The Romy needs some TLC. It will be a good project to finish out the winter. The bluing is gone on some areas and you can tell the stock needs re-finishing. I'll give the bolt and bayo a good buffing when the stock and bluing is complete. It will take me awhile but I'll post pic's when finished.;)

Are they residing in their numerical places in the new gun safe room :laugh_sma
very nice
mosinutty
Well of course not Swabb, They must be inspected, cleaned, oiled, polished, and tagged before they can be placed on the wall of honor in the sacred GUN ROOM.:uhoh_smal My girlfriend is now convinced that I should seek professional help for my gun fetish. I told her as long as she has a roof over her head and some grub in the fridge that she has nothing to worry about.:p

mosinutty, NICE Russian Tula! What did you pay for it, back in the day?
mosinutty
Just got it polytech! Paid $400.00 not bad these day's for a non-refurb. I remember back about 18 years ago when I lived in Louisville Ky. A guy at a gun shop wanted to sale me 2 russian SKS's for $250.00.....for both! Passed it up being ignorant at the time!

55 tula r
Nice, my 1955 has an umarked top cover. I wonder if it was replaced during the refurb process. I like the marked top covers.
mosinutty
Hey Sv, I think I saw some Tula marked dust covers for sale @ buymilsurp.com

Very nice!
The 55 Tula should be a keeper.
hagar
I also have a russian SKS imported by CDI, with just a little box with a strike through mark on the top cover. All numbers match, serial is HO27XX. Was told that the 55 russians did not have the star on the top cover.

I will not shoot it all at once.It will get me buy for awhile.I don't usually go to a range,I shoot in my Dads back yard.I can shoot about 225 yards into a berm of dirt.No houses for miles in the direction I shoot. The funny thing is there is a gun range about 1/2 mile away but why pay to shoot when I can do it for free,td
