Does any one know if there are any reproduced ones out there?
I really dont feel like doing a hack job and cutting the one I have off to replace it,
NOR do i feel like paying 500 plus for a sniper model..

replacement bolt assembly should be cheap enough to bugger up and not really care too much.
there are bent bolt handles that mount to the side of your bolt after you cut the original off. i think they bolt on and some even come with the scope mount
and no i cant remember where ive seen them, but they were only around $50-$60 for the handle and scope mount set if memory serves

Save the iriginal bolt and buy a second bolt or a cheap rifle. Get a one with a bolt that opens easily. This is a sign of a properly finished bolt which "reasenaled" rifles don't have. older is better. There are original sniper bolts available for a price or you can get a welded one here and they are decent. I think he'll do one you send him or swap you for one, so don't send the original. I'm not sure he'll sell you one unless you have one to swap or weld.

I found two or three sources for new manufactured bent bolts when I switched my Mosin to a sniper and put on a PU scope. They ran from $45.00 to $60.00, some wanted you to trade the old one, but I got mine for $45.00 and still have the old one. It was a year ago, so sorry, I don't remember where I got it. Just google until you find a few...

The Melbee bolt handles are not all that great. Thinner than original and some are turned too quickly in the top bend and strike the wood of the stock. If you do not care about lookinmg like an original or if it may strike or touch the stock then go for it. If you want a professional and original look go with the "Boltman" hread posted above. No need to buy a new bolt but both options will seel you an unmarked or marked to your rifle bolt handle. If you are doing a sniper just send the oiginal handle for matching to the rifle.

whats the price difference?
Main thing I am concerned about is trying to make it appear as original as possible..
mosinutty
Well, That's why I posted the one from ebay. The Boltman charges around $80.00 and has a long wait. My dad has one of the Boltman conversions on his M91 and it does look better than mine. But I didn't want to spend as much on mine. The difference is the Boltman welds and mills off the weld to a smoother finish than mine. Never had an Issue with it touching my stock. Everyone that has looked at my rifle thinks it is an original, but not all folks are as well educated on Mosin's as we at the Files are.;)

would it be possible to modify a fiberforce sks stock to fit a mosin? the reason i ask is ive been toying with making a sniper rifle using my old psl scope, an ak scope mount and a modified sks stock. an yes it will be very far from original

I"m surprised nobody has mentioned the surplus bent bolt assemblies at Numrich

the numrich bolts are standard bent down bolts, not extended sniper handle bolts
very difficult to use.

Your prices are incorrect. The link to the Boltman is above in allesennogwat's post. In the $55 to $60 range. Far superior to the Ebay Melbee bolts. Not even close.
mosinutty
My apologies for the misinformation AKBLUE you are correct. Yes I wholeheartedly agree that the Boltman conversion is a better product. Although the Melbee has yet to give me any issues and looks great after I ran it across my buffer. And the wait time was half that of the Boltman's. But for the quality is well worth the wait.
I have modified one of the Numrich bent bolts that I put on an M-38. I sanded the ball at the end of the handle to a flat surface similar to a yugo Mauser bolt. You can get a grip on it and it looks pretty cool to.:cool_smal

1/8" clearance between bolt handle and stock. Sound's like Melbee may be inconsistent with his bends if this one clears the stock and others don't.:uhoh_smal

Why didn't they just make all Mosins with the regular bent bolt? Just to speed up production? I mean they are like the only bolt-actions with a straight charger handle(Is that what it's called?)
*edit* I removed the pic, thought I was in a different thread.
my-rifle
Yugoslavian Mausers use the straight bolt too. I think it's just the older design. The bent bolt may have come out later.

Stay away from Melbee and his sniper bolts as all he does is drill a hole in the bolt body and stick a bent handle in it with very little or no welding. The Boltman is the best but TGP and Accumounts both sell Mosin sniper bolts at about the same price as the Boltman, but they aren't as nice. But they are much nicer than Melbees.
