View Thread: OhioRapidfire is NOT COMING THROUGH
cntrailrider
I purchased an HK91 Beltfed Rifle (fixed barrel; poorman's hybrid version of an HK21) still under one year warranty, built by OhioRapidfire. It would not, nor had it ever fed a belt. The belt feed mechanism did not function at all, because it was far too tight. A few rds may have been fired through the barrel, but never out of a belt. Physically impossible
I returned the rifle to OhioRapidfire in October of '07 and it still hasn't been repaired. Dozens of emails, promises, excuses, procrastination, no action. My latest email, sent last night, is below
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Kelly -
This is Steve XXXXXXXX in El Paso TX. You have had my '91 beltfed rifle, which never worked right, in for repair since October '07. I have been more than patient. Even Todd admitted this in one of his own emails almost a year ago.
You have held the high hand throughout this whole process, because I've allowed you. Until now.
My work & income is down/reduced by 90%. I am a cargo pilot by trade. Sounds glamorous to everyday folks, but the fact is, my work is contigent on the auto industry. I wear jeans to work and the inside of my plane is no more glamorous than an 18-wheeler. Just like them, I am paid by the mile. We fly "just-in-time" parts from Mexico to the assembly plants in the auto regions (MI, OH, PA, IN, IL) and production is DOWN. I am feeling the crunch. There is no mileage. No backhauls. No income.
You have had my rifle since October '07. You've had plenty of time to repair it. I haven't been threatening, nor even rude, about how long this has taken. However my patience is past it's limit. Obviously no effort to repair it has been made. It would take an experienced builder such as yourselves about ONE DAY to have it up and running, and another day to refinish it. I know this, because I build guns myself. I have a lathe, milling machine, and tig welder and know exactly what it entails. No effort has been made on your part, other than procrastination
I will make you an offer. You can buy the rifle back at $3800, which is at a $200 loss to me (meaning incentive to get in gear) or you can ship it back as is, to be received at my home address within the week. I was advised by you that the cocking tube has been re-welded. I am an honest person, and still have the bipod and (the only) ejector, that came with this rifle. If it is not received by 2-20-09, you can bet everyone who reads any gunboard will not only hear about this, but also read firsthand the personal emails sent between myself, you, and Todd. I've saved them all (they're dated) and have been strung along for too long.
It only takes 10 minutes to ship it; probably less, since you already have an account.
I will tell you what kind of person I am. I have been thrice divorced, and none of my three ex's would say nor put up with an unkind word about me. I have paid my debts, and also know who created me. I know him personally. I would advise you folks up there to get in touch with that Almighty Creator and put into practice some of the principles He's laid out for us to follow. I am not a pastor but I am an honest cargo pilot. Yes this email will be included on my next post (along with my last name) on Sturm, Subguns, AKfiles, TheHighRoad, FiringLine, Biggerhammer, Gunco, Gunsnet, etc. I belong to over a dozen and am somewhat well-known for just being a tinkerer and home-builder. My MG47 thread alone has over 20K views and readers do sense my disposition. I am not a braggart - just a driven builder/tinkerer who is glad to share what I come up with, to advance the homebuilders world

Next step will be all the other boards. I only have one reputation, and it's taken some effort to preserve it. We each get ONE reputation (only one) to take care of, and I've done fairly well with mine, thus far
If this rifle were returned in fireable condition, I would list it on Sturm and Subguns for sale, due to my current financial situation. It is that dire. We are beyond the negotiations point
Sincerely, and I do mean that in every way

Again, I have forwarded every email to Todd. I have asked him numerous times when it would be done.
All I can do is forward this on again to him.
I cannot fix your gun. If I could I would.

Man, i cant believe this, it is one of the worst stories i have ever heard!
I would see about some type of legal action, since nothing else seems to work!
ORF is well known for having problems on a lot of their rec. but that kind of cash
puts this in a whole new ball-park, if you post this on the AKForum
it will be deleted and you will be banned! ORF and Krinkfreak are real buddies!
I just cant believe this, maybe they cant fix it! Just like OOW could never fix any of the early VZs they sold in 2000!
Best luck and wishes.

Steve you are a very patient man.I know I would not have been this patient if it were me.I would probally have showed up in Ohio asking about my gun,of course I live in Michigan so it would not be that far for me to go.I hope this works out for you.td

If you don't get a shipping # from him in a few days I would turn it in as
a case of a stolen firearm. Don't know what else you would call it if he won't
send it back.
I had a tv repair shop forget about me for two years once, but I had a loner.
When it broke and I called he couldn't find my chassis for the old set. Was going
to give me another loner while he came up with one. Now that is service. I
just bought one from him because of his integrity.

They will have one week after last night's warning. If not received by then, I will flood the boards where 80% of the online gun culture will see it. The letter above, plus a couple dozen emails like below (excuses, procrastinations etc) will be copied, pasted, posted, everywhere you look. Like a missing child poster on every light pole in town, to where you see the kid's face when you close your eyes at night. It won't be fun either and I don't look forward to it. But once started, the Mennonite work ethic takes over and I will do a thorough job. You see, I'm one of them who beat my plowshares back into rifles. I'd prefer a straight-out refund at this point, due to severely slow work/income
The anti-gunners enjoy this in-fighting friction stuff. I don't.

I could use some RPD belts with the "U" links. Let me know what you have and how much. I could use about 4 belts, probably more. The "L" link belts won't help me. "U" links is the best way I know how to describe them.
I sure hope I get my '91 BF back someday, repaired and ready to run. It was a $4,000 outlay and I have nothing to show for it. I believe I've been more than patient -

This is Steve XXXXXXXX in El Paso TX - I shipped a beltfed HK91 to you folks for repair, in August. Is this a lost cause or is there really a sincere intent to ever repair it? I have designed and built two different prototype beltfeds here since I shipped it in, on scratch-home-built receivers with no milling machine - mostly dremmel & files. If I can pull that off, without being a gunsmith, I would surely think you folks could repair a firearm you mass-produced and advertised for commercial sale If you truly have no intent to repair it, I request you ship it back and I will seek other options. I am not a wealthy person - and this gun is one of the more expensive non-NFA items I own. I have certainly not received $4,000 worth of firearm, backed up by the warranty you advertise

Sorry this has not turned out the way I wanted it too. Kelly said you want the rifle shipped and that's cool, I gotta get it together for her. I did get a email from a brokerer I use and he has a customer interested in the gun. I will be in Dayton tomorrow, but I can haller at him and see what the deal is. Let me know what works best.
Thanks Todd@Rapid Fire
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It turned out exactly the way you wanted it to. You decided how it would turn out every time you started a new project instead of following through on your promise to repair my rifle.
"...you want the rifle shipped and that's cool..."??
Todd, from here on, your behavior will be judged in the court of public opinion. Be glad it's not the CNN crowd. You seldom answered my emails. You saddled Kelly with that. Yours WILL BE ANSWERED - HERE - and soon, on every major gunboard. Son, you are squandering precious time. As far as "Money or the gun", here's your answer, in your own words:
Steve,
I am sorry it has taken so long and the rifle is not complete yet. I understand you would like a refund, I would rather not do that with the time I have invested in the gun so far and the gun was second hand from me. I am catching up on work, and this will get completed soon.

Had you'd been repairing MY rifle, THEN YOU'D HAVE BEEN CATCHING UP. It's a brash display of irresponsibility and carelessness. Had you been repairing my rifle instead of courting your last ex, think of the grief you'd have spared yourself. You could have thrown in a couple HK sears as a gift, and still came out ahead
At the rate we're going, you could tell me you just had a son. Next email would say he's graduating from college, but you're still working on my gun! Your level of denial borders on psychotic
If I have to publicly air the details to motivate you, then I'll do the best job you ever heard of. Your final week is ticking - money or the gun (not a tracking number) then I open the floodgates. It will diminish your future customer base. It's the only way to motivate you. When this moves to the mainline boards, and the high-dollar folks see it, you'll realize what you've done to yourself. I hope before then. All over one rifle. Small to you, but important to me. Ever heard of David & his slingshot?

I will take hi-res pics of the box and contents when it arrives, and if there's anything noteable, will post them here. When returned for repair, I didn't include the bipod nor the ejector (I only have one HK BF ejector between the two guns)
In my year and a half wait, I've acquired a TIG & mill, and may try tackling the repair myself. I own a few transferrables, and built a '51 & a 51K so I'm not totally green to HK's. It will be my first HK-beltfed build experience, but now I own a Vollmer '21 to study, and that will help

Sorry Todd but you just fucked yourself out of one more long time customer PERMANENTLY.
I don't deal with crooks and hell even in my health I could have fixed anything I built in the time you've wasted, be intersting to see if you can even return the gun in the same condition it was sent to you in, ya know in the Auto buisness that is a law also, "A Vehicle must be returned to the customer in at least the same condition as it was received if repairs are declined" I'm sure the laws governing your profession are the same. He didn't decline repairs, You did.
Your intergity and pride in your craftsmanship is obviously Non existant, I doubt you display any form of self respect either as folks like you normally do not. Most of us as American Craftsmen take pride in our work and the likes of you are just annoying. maybe you should consider turning the buisness over to your Ex-wife, she might do something useful with it! Damn no wonder she dumped your ass........
Thanks cntrailer for pointing out one more crook in the gun buisness, I have dealt with them for about 8 years now as I had no idea they were inclined to be this way, but then I also bought a working hesse Fal once also.....

Copying and pasting the tracking page here does not work. Because it has a tracking # doesn't mean it's in transit. Could be he's came to his senses and is fixing it now! Or it could be his final twisting of the knife. Opening the sealed box will be video-documented, and will be shown here + or -. A Notary Public will witness the opening, just in case the gun was ruined beyond repair before shipping. Otherwise, it would be my word against his, and I won't play that game, because I have an idea of what I'm dealing with now

Steve,I believe you have proved yourself to be a man of integrity by how you have handled this situation.I am sure not many here could or would show the patience you have shown,I would not or could not have.I like the idea of recording the firearm when opening the box. This will protect you and prove to be handy in a court of law.I would suggest taking him to small claims court to recoup some or all of your money if possible.Todd on the other hand has proved once again the type of business man he is and also has shown his lack of integrity, honesty and customer service.I wonder how he has remained in business all these years. It also amazes me that there is a firearm board who will delete a thread like this and ban anyone who speaks the truth about ORF.They also show what type of people they are.I am glad that they are not a reflection of the true gun community.I hope this turns out better then I feel it will,td

http://i524.photobucket.com/albums/cc324/cntrailrider/91Beltfed001.jpg[/IMG]
I snapped these the day it arrived. You can see the welds look really nice, and overall finish would rate a solid 10 out of 10
http://i524.photobucket.com/albums/cc324/cntrailrider/91Beltfed003.jpg
It was built using quality components, with deluxe sight & stock. Bipod attached up front, [I]or in the rear. The only problem was, it didn't work. The 'ratchet' in the feed mech wouldn't turn, even without a belt (cocking empty). Man, was I glad it was still under warranty. Otherwise, I'd have bought a $4K jam-O-matic. That's when I began searching & reading threads about ORF's service, and started to get a little concerned. But they overnighted a shipping airbill to me, covering the return-shipping costs out of their own pocket. I was very impressed - that's service! Just a little more patience, and I'd be cooking in no time.

Rifle arrived today (a day earlier than tracking indicated) and it seems in good condition. It was well packed in a plastic rifle case. The cocking tube weld was completed, and nicely aligned. Perfect. Cocking piece gap unlocks the BC very easily (that was a problem, previously). As posted above, my only HK belt-feed ejector is in my '21. I only own one. Well they installed another NEW EJECTOR in the BF'91 :) I sincerely appreciate that, especially since they are rare & pricey. Internals were lubed with white grease - heading out to testfire now - will report the results later. All in all I have a pretty good feeling about this -

Today I feel like the luckiest man in Texas. It works purrrfect. So did the '21. I shot both the semi and Fleming packs, with no problems whatsoever. Before taking it out, I noticed some friction on the tail of both ejectors, and opened that area in each pack (slight dremmel & polish) so they rock freely now. Very minor fix. STRONG ejection (about 30') placing all the casings within a couple feet.
I know for a fact this BF91 design does not have inherent design flaws. Not one failure to feed nor failure to eject, though I was plagued by both when it was first received. No plans to sell this gun! This is almost starting to sound like a ORF advertisemtent

The inital problem with the receiver was that the bolt would not close completely with out using a plastic hammer to close the action and reopen it. I have two kits and receivers, but only built one, then stopped as I got really PO'ed at the entire deal. The second receiver doesn't have the problem. Hopefully, I get the problem fixed one day......then there is the matter of the Galil kit that sits with no receiver at all..............

Hell ya, he has a grip on the complaints. A good grip. Year and a half? Try four years! Start with the MP5 receiver scam and follow the trail to his latest twist on the FAL.
If you complain he argues with you telling you he's too busy with other things or getting divorced (see above in this thread) to worry about your weapon, or if he can't blow you off he sends in his henchmen to call you names.

My '91 BF is for sale if anyone's interested. It works prefect in semi & select-fire w/ sear pack installed. $5.5K in semi. FFL hardcopy required for sale. They're obviously no longer in production but this one works. A rare bird & much lighter than a '21 so it is an animal. Plus, it may be the gun that spelled ORF's doom, so it already has some history -

I just placed a few large orders with ORF.
Same excellent service I always had.
Still open, just downsized.

I've never had problems with them until the '91 BF repair. Even during that ordeal, they sold me some valuable hard-to-find parts at fair prices
Hope your deal works out
