View Thread: Looking to Pick up a Galil

Hey guys looking to pick up a Galil. I've seen the CAI Sporters on J&G for $600 but didn't know about the quality as I have heard mixed reviews. I'm really pretty clueless on these and I don't have much time to read up on them as I'm currently in military training. I might be doing some private security work and want a reliable piston driven 5.56 for tropical climates. And yes I already have a Bulgy 74 haha...but I only get free 5.56. Any other suggestions or considerations would be appreciated!
Thanks guys

Not piston driven, but is supposed to be the stuff. Got deep pockets?

Note that the CAI Golanis are 223 rem caliber chambered, so mil-spec 5.56 loads may be overpowered for the Golani.

Most people with the newer cast receiver guns are happy with them. They're not perfect but the problems don't seem to be insurmountable like the heat treatment issues, etc on the earlier milled guns.

Time will tell but, for now anyway, a cast rifle is your only cheap alternative.

It will shoot 5.56 fine. Anything with a 1 in 9 or faster twist is meant to shoot heavy military bullets, you only have to worry about a tight bolt action with a 1 in 12 twist and a short leade.

I have 2 Golanis, 1 with an ORF receiver and the other with the new cast receiver. Fit, finish and function on both rifles are excellent. It is one of the last remaining bargains left.

The biggest complaint I have is that they don't provide you with a tool to adjust elevation, and the AK style ones is not long enough. Blue Monster made me a tool from an allan wrench, and it works like a charm.

If you intend to put yourself in harms way, you do NOT want to rely on a Century built weapon nomatter what cal. or design it is..................

Hey thanks guys! It would definitely be a backup to my AR for the moment but I wanted something durable and realiable. I was looking at getting a build done but don't know much about reliable parts kits. Any other suggestions would be great!
