View Thread: battlefield pickups

My first 91/30 was a well worn 1943 Tula that I paid $40 for at Big 5 years ago. Then the really nice ones started coming into the country, and I haven't seen a "battlefield pickup" 91/30 in quite some time, and quite frankly I wouldn't mind getting one again.

Sold my M39 (just didn't like the dang rifle, mainly the sights) to someone on another board, and then he has to turn up with an amazing 91/30 that was rebuilt by the Finns. Stock has multiple plugs to repair damage, and there is a small gouge in the receiver. A really neat battle damaged rifle! Of course he won't sell it to me...

I don't know about other folks, but as much as I enjoy the refurbed 91/30's, the well worn and used ones have more appeal to me.

Post a pic.

I posted one of my 43 Ishy that I think is a BP in my "Post yer Mosins" thread.

There are no import marks and looks untouched.

i picked up a 91/30 awhile back, stock was flaking so i decided to refinish it.

got the old shellac stripped off and started sanding, hit a spot on the side and tore the paper.

found a little sliver of metal in the side, pulled it out and it was over an inch long.

found several more along the same side as well as a few gouges in teh barrel under the wood.

jacket fragments from a German stick grenade.

judging from the damage and staining on the buttstock whoever had this gun before me died with it.

Whoa, that rifle with the grenade frags does sound very badass!

I'll get some pics of my two mosins this coming monday or tuesday. They are rather boring, both being Big 5 refurb models. One has been kicked around the boat a bit and has a nice bit of handling, and the other is being stripped for a refinish job.
