Here's my '54 Tula in lam stock. It was unfired until last month!

Came with a bunch of goodies from a private sale.
I figure if I post a new SKS pic each week, I can stretch it out for a couple of months!

Very nice martin. What are the noticeable differences between the Russian SKS's and the other's?

The Russian is the original Simonov design, supposedly built to better tolerances than Yugo, Romanian, Albanian, Chinese, etc. That said, I have a Norinco and a Romanian that offer just as tight groups as my Russian - 1.5" groups @ 100 yards. They are all highly functional, simple low maintenance and light recoil carbines.
But an original condition Russian (mine is a re-furb) offered in arctic birch and a deep rose colored stock is a thing of beauty!
The mount is a B-Square which goes over the rear cover. It is supposedly a 'no smithing' mount. However installation does require the removal of the receiver cover latch/lever, and a retaining pin does have to be ground off or removed otherwise. But the receiver itself does not have to be drilled and tapped, and it is rock solid - at least on this set-up, and has not needed re-zeroing after removal for cleaning.

Thanks for all the information Martin!

I'm still kicking myself for not following up a year ago on a chicom SKS a guy had "in his closet for years" complete with a case of ammo. I put his card aside, and then lost it. Those "closet guns" can come with some neat stuff!

Yeah, they're only double the price from a year ago in the general market, unless you find those closet deals.
I think the only item that's less than "pre-election" prices is a gallon of gas.... and my tank only holds 17 gallons.....
