View Thread: Bren Ten reborn

http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn208/StVitus100/DSCN4815.jpg - I`ve been following this for a while & have been looking forward to it. I`ve always been a 10mm fan & especially the Bren Ten(think Miami Vice), but w/ the price of an original pushing past the 2-3k range, they were pretty much a rich man`s safe queen. Now that Viltor has taken the reigns I can have a real shooter. They improved on the original`s weakness`s & used all the current technology to make a stout platform. The available calibers IIRC will be 10mm, .45, 9mm & possibly even 9x23(not sure about .40, but I would think so).

there was an episode where sonny dropped a mag on the ground and to add insult to injury, left it. bren 10 owners were said to have wept and tried to climb into their t.v.s to recover it!

That was one of the problems the original Bren had was a lack of available mags. I`m sure there was a lot of people screaming at Crockett " pick it up you dumbass!!"

it was even mentioned in a gun magazine.

I'd love to see the 10MM come back.
It is a great round.

Me too although I don`t think the 10 really went away as much as it was just pushed to the sidelines. People are realizing how versatile a cartridge it is. The current manufacturers are Glock, S&W, Dan Wesson(CZ), Tangfolio, Fusion firearms, Wilson Combat, & STI. A few yet to be released are the Fortis(Viltor) & Colt`s re-introduction of the Delta Elite. I`ve got a glock#23 now & it`s a great little carry gun though the 10 is still my favorite. The Fortis is cosmetically almost identical to the original Bren but w/ the weak spots eliminated. Also this time there will be plenty of mags available.

two of my most favorite pistol rounds on the planet.
the 10mm is what the 45acp wishes it was
9x23 makes an awesome higher capacity carry gun,and makes 9+p+ and even 38 super look like 38 special...just no factory loadings
my son is salivating over that new Bren 10

Hey Swabbie. I`ve heard some of the 9x23 but am a little more familiar w/ the 9x25 dillon, though not much. I know the 9x25 is a 10mm case necked down to a 9mm, but not sure of the 9x23. The reloading info on each sounds similiar, as in not much for factory load info. I agree on the 10, hope it comes full circle.

surprised you've heard of the 9x25..I've actually fired a pistol chambered in 9x25.....it never really took off since IPSC is all about capacity, and that 10 mm case fills up a magazine.
that plus it was so powerful that throat erosion meant approx 5K rounds barrel life.it was quit exciting...fired it at an indoor range in St Bernard's Parish,LA, and everyone else in that bay left :laugh_sma .the pistol actually recoiled dowwnwards due to the compensator :tongue_sm :tongue_sm
9x23 is what 38 super wants to be..much thicker brass..higher pressures.feeds like a dream in gov't model...like a super 7.62x25 round...only Winchester ever made carry ammo for it.rounds stack flat unlike a 38 super which stacks on the rim...very reliable

I was a member of a 10mm site for a while & learned a lot. A few members were getting into reloading the 9x25 & were working on developing some loads. Right now I`m sticking w/ the 10 but IIRC a 9mm bullet at 1800fps sounds pretty friggin hot. Here`s my #1006, also have a G#20.http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3089/3159931243_1c273c8f82.jpg
