View Thread: Bent Gas Lever?
WangChong
Me and my sks didn't get together very well today. I bought it a new black stock which was looking pretty cool until I realized the little pin holding the gas tube on the handguard would not budge.
Anyways, I became very frustated at this time and said screw it I'll use the fiber stock and have a wooden handguard. I kept trying to push the lever back down for a while and it would not budge either. I accidentally bent it out of place so now it moves freely and doesnt lock back in place. Is there any solution to this?

simple fix, swivel the lever straight up and press it slightly towards the gas block just enough to get a little resistance when securing lever, i had to do this with mine when i accidentally knocked it out of place

thanks, got it fixed already. while we're on this thread though, should I sand and paint my wooden handguard black because there's no way I can get that rivet out the gas tube. i dont want to drill it out either.

to get the wood off all you need is a small punch soak the pin with some kroil or pblaster for a bit and try to drive it out

Best to drill the peened portion of the pin away with a drill bitt or Dremel burr and drive it out. Replasce with a nail of close diameter and peen it with a hammer on a solid surface to hold it in place. Trying to bludgeon out a peened pin is not a good idea as you will likely damage something or ruin the stock ferrule. They are not hard to remove or replace if you do it correctly and gently. There are a lot of ruined ferrules from hammering though. You can do it. ;)

alright fellas, i got the handguard on the gas tube. i had to drill it out, it doesn't look pretty either. now... i can't get my gas tube to go back in place because the levers blocking it and when i let the lever up the spring flys out.

go to the section field strip the sks and look at the
4th picture with the blue arrow, that is how far your lever should be to get the tube back on
