View Thread: PSL or ROMY AK DRACO PISTOL
Firefly
I have'nt bought a weapon in a coupla years and I'm starting to get that wild hair up my ass.I know "O" is gonna be in soon so I want one more.As far as guns go I'm good all the way around, but what would you guys pick between the two if you wanted another rifle.Reason being I'm well stocked with 39 and 54r ammo. I usually make my own choices but I'm stumped between the two.My wife thinks I have enough, but some of you guys know how it is .I just want one more bad ass rifle or pistol before it's too late.

Excuse my ignorance. What is a Romy Draco???
Fortis
Firefly, do you mean Romy Dragonav(Romak3)? If so it`s the same gun as the psl. I`ve been back & forth on getting a psl, kind of hit & miss w/ quality. All the better deals are through Aim, etc. & you can`t check it out first. I`ve also been wondering if the psl`s will be on the hit list because of their 10 round mag. capacity(although I`m sure they`ll find a reason). Lately I`ve heard the possibility of a Saiga in 7.62x54, now that I would jump on.

The Draco is a Pistol version of the AK,I guess like a KRINK

My Neighbor has a Saiga semi-auto 308 with a scope but I don't really like the feel of it.I know that the PSL is very close to the dragonav, but I never handled these kind of rifles.I really like the way the PLS looks and the range it has with semi-auto,but at the same time I can really get into that pistol style AK so to speak.Just some thoughts if you would.

I was & still am having a hard time putting the $ down on the psl. I recently got an m39 & compared them this way. To me, other than the cool factor & the 10 round mag, the psl lacks on everything else. The 5 extra rounds you get don`t matter much because the thin barrel gets hot after just a few shots & you start to lose accuracy. Also they`re more of a pain to clean(corrosive ammo). Then there`s the price of 2-3 times as much, not to mention their hit & miss quality. The m39 is an improved Mosin that is cheaper, more accurate(heavier barrel), easier to clean & can handle heavier ammo, all at a price much less than a psl. Granted it`s not as cool, but the extra $ can buy a lot of ammo. Wish I knew more about the Draco Firefly, sounds like a cool gun. Even w/ all the negatives on the psl I mentioned, I still might be tempted to get one if the price/condition were right, just because they are an AK on roids.I did shoulder a psl at a gun show & found that it was hard to get a good cheek weld. The scope sat pretty high which put the stock to cheek point at just above chin level. I have seen some members w/ a cheek pad strapped to the stock that may help w/ that though. I also remember seeing a recent thread on someone trying to design an improved stock for the psl. If a better stock came along, that would make a big difference for me. P.S. - If it were a choice between the two, I would get the Draco because you know for sure it will be in the sights of the gun-grabbers.

Kind of a rambling response but hope it helped.

im with fortis on this, get the draco if i had the extra cash i would have one right now all the ones i have seen have dimples and all the Y/X/Y millitary stamps and i could see the gun grabbers going after something like that first

Thanks Fortis and ambviolent for your input ,REALLY , it was a toss up, and my mosin 91/30 and m44 came with nice barrells and They shoot good.Next week I am gonna purchase the Draco, Thanks again.

I will post pics of the Draco.I was set up for either one but what ya'll said made sense, the draco will likely be banned first because of it's style and it has a nice close quarter application. My mosins are in very good shape for long range shots. The Draco is also $300 cheaper .

The 91/30 is a great rifle for the money.

The 91/30 is a great rifle for the money.yea, i was planning on getting one last year but i wanted to get my black rifles first, i noticed the inflation of ak's and kits last janurary and got my kit when they were selling the rusty's for under a c-note and ak when they were in the 300 dollar range, after i get a 91/30 i want to get a winchester 94 in 30/30
Firefly
The 91/30 will be 0ne of the best 100 bucks you'll ever spend

OK, now I see what a Draco pistol is. They look cool but you may tire quiclky of a firearnm that is too large to be a pistol and not handy enough to be a rifle. I have a pistol AK (not a Draco) it is bling but kinda dumb for htting anything.
The PSL for any of it's faults is a much better range rifle and more fun to shoot after you are done bump firing a mag or two with the pistol, Just depends on what you want to do. :)

psl all the way!

I'm also a big PSL fan.
Fortis
Ok psl fans, go ahead & talk me into it. Pros/cons & what to watch out for when buying. This will most likely be the last "evil" gun I buy so I want it to count. Anything to support the economy.

pros accurate, reliable, easy to break down, requires no tools, ammo is plentiful and still inexpensive, compared to other high powered rounds, as for the barrel issue its realy not any thinner than the mosins, or the svds for that matter,
cons, they are kinda pricey, plus ive heard some people have had problems with the us made recievers
