View Thread: RPD Question

FAL GRUNT
Why or for what is the RPD muzzle threaded for? It is not 14x1.

I remember seeing somewhere "experimental" breaks for the AK that had originally been developed for the RPD but I can't remember from where.

Anyone have any ideas?

I was thinking the same thing. Why is it threaded. Thanks, Jerod

why are RPK barrels threaded? except for the chinese, warsaw pact countries never installed any muzzle device on them. even though a slant brake could be attached, they just put a muzzle but on them......maybe they threaded in with the intention of making a muzzle device especially for it

when the AK-47 was introduced those barrels were also threaded, but no muzzle device were attached, except for the muzzle nut to protect the threads......,yet, it wasn't until they started to make the AKM that they put a muzzle device on them, the slant brake.

a guess on my part, is maybe they threaded the RPD barrels with the intention of developing a muzzle device for them later, but never did.

The threads are for blank firing devices.

Do you know what the threads are?

I don't have my metric pitch gauges at home...

As mentioned before, they were for BFAs originally. I would love to have a prong style or bird cage flash hider for my RPD.

FAL GRUNT
Any idea what the threads are?

I'll have to bring home my guages I guess.

Figured I would whip something up on the lathe for a US part.

Not entirely, sure, bigger than than a standard AK, my guess is it's like a PKM, which is left-hand metric M18 x 1.5. If I had me a PKM, I would compare the two, but that has yet to be purchased ;-)
