View Thread: Round NOT going bang.

The Gun shoots fine 95% of the time. But it seems that some times the fireing pin does not hit the primer hard enough to set the round off. I am guessing this has something to do with a hammer spring? Is this a common problem? Does anyone exactly know whats (could be) wrong. And what is needed to fix it.
I know that not a very detailed description but I hope you get the general idea.

What firearm do you have?
AKBLUE
Have you disassembled the firing pin from the bolt and inspected it and the firing pin channel for dirt.debris and or primer fragments? Common cause. Also bent firing pin will give those symptoms.

Make sure there is no cosmo left in there.
My M-59 did the same thing.
Sure as hell there was dried cosmo in there and gummy.
It would hang up the pin just enough to dent the primer sometimes.
Clean it real good and see if the prob clears up.

Like AK and Black-Wolf are saying. Need to check the firing pin and make sure it is not frozen. The SKS does not have a firing pin spring, it is a free floating firing pin. When you remove the bolt and turn it up vertical you should be able to push the firing pin upward and then it should fall back to the rear on its own. I de-cosmolined 3 Norinco SKS's the other day and found the best way to go is with a cheap induction nozzle like you get from Rural King. Place the suction hose in degreaser, I use part's washer solvent, And then hook up the air compressor hose and spray the shit out of all the metal parts. Works great! Each time you field strip the rifle for cleaning, Always check the firing pin.

Thanks Guy,
I will try degreaseing and then give you a cit-rep.

Did you replace the Hammer Spring with a Reduced Power Wolff SKS Hammer Spring???

I did not but is there a way to check if someone els did? I bought this gun used.

Do not disassemble the bolt. It is way to easy to break the pin that hold the FP in. Hose the hell out of the firing pin channel with brake cleaner. Whe you think it is celan hose it down again. Shake all of the gunk out and let it dry.
When it is dry, hold the bolt next to your ear and shake the bolt. You should hear the firing pin rattle.

No you can't really check unless you have a Spring Gauge. I would order a Std. Wt. SKS Hammer Spring and have someone that is handy with tools help you replace it. What you describe is a very common occurence when swapping out the Std. SKS Hammer Spring for the Wolff Reduced Power Hammer Spring To Improve Trigger Pull.
I will bet you this cures your problem 100%!
