View Thread: found paratrooper barrel today
FMJ 7.62
At the gun show I attended today, I found a shorter paratrooper barrel for an SKS mounted in a bare receiver with the sights, bayo lug, and everything attached except the gas tube for $80. The outside looked really good, no signs of rust or damage, but I didn't check the inside of the barrel though, it was crowded and that table was packed. Do you guys think it would be worth going back tomorrow to see if it's still there?

Maybe..., but it will not be cheap. A trigger group will be $70 to $80. Other parts for assembly.., carrier, bolt, recoil spring gas tube, piston, receiver cover stiock in the $130 range. Then you have a mismatched paratrooper.
Figure a $300 finished rifle with headspace to check as well. If you want a project.., maybe not a bad idea but not a deal $$-wise.

I thought it would be kind of cool to build a folding stock short barrel with a red dot. I don't know, I might go back tomorrow and see if it's still there and give it a more thorough inspection and ask what happened to the rest of the rifle.

I went back on Sunday and it was already gone.

Probably a good thing. You would have to throw a lot of money to assemble a mismatched rifle. You can buy one chaper than the sum of the parts cost.

I've always wanted to "build" a rifle though. I couldn't do it all at once but I think it would be a fun project. Would be something fun to do with my son.

A Ruger 10/22 may be a better chioice to tinker with and much cheaoer to shoot when you are done. Lots of options for these nice 22 cal rifles. Just a thought.

For a .22 I have a bolt action Winchester 121 that I have shot all my life. You can invest a lot of money in a 10/22; if I were to start on one of those, it's hard to tell when it would get done :smile_sma
