View Thread: RPK Differences

Captain Killgore
I am planning my next build, or purchase, and I need some info. I have noticed that the Yugo RPK has a finned barrel, and the Romy does not. Which has the true "heavy" barrel? Is one better than the other? I like the carrying handle the Romy has. Any input is greatly appreciated!

I had both, but still have the romanian RPK it fits better, I think than the Yugo, as the stock is longer than the Yugo. The barrels look to be the same, but one has the finned barrel, and one does not, plus the Romanian has a chrome lined barrel. Thanks, Jerod

Romy also has a longer barrel by a few inch's..I have both...I like the fit/function of the Romy slightly over the Yugo...I have more money in my Romy because I put the new IO wood on it that I got years ago--which is awsome looking..

Both of mine are kit builds on Vulcan receivers.....All I can say is I had a HELL of a lot of time into those junk receivers to make them function reliably....If someone offered me a Vulcan receiver again, I would simply put it in the recycle bin and buy a quality piece......simply not worth the time to get all there drukin' measurements straightened out..

Both RPKs have 'heavy barrels'.

"Better" is subjective. Some folks like tail fins, some folks think they're tacky.

The carry handle. I use a gun case with a carry handle myself.

For those of us who've joined us recently, "Vulcan" is/was a Hesse company (search for Hesse).

The Romanian stock is longer??? Hmmm, I compared the two and the Yugo is about 2 inches longer as it is a conventional Yugo wood fixed stock and the Romy is the short paddle stock. At least thart is what I have to compare.

I built my Romanian RPK using a Romanian G kit stock that I took off a G kit I built as an underfoder. It feels a LOT better than the club-foot original stock, but it doesn't hold as well. Unfortunately it can't hit the ground if I dropped it.
