View Thread: Anybody have any experience w/1P21 optic?

Has anybody ever mounted one of these on a romak 3 / PSL? This is the large scope that is canted way off to the left side of the bore. It looks more complicated to site than the PSO scopes. Is it worth the extra $$ compared to PSO? Thanx for any info.

I used the 1P21 extensively on one of my .308 NDM-86 Dragunovs. IMHO it's the quickest/easiest scope to use when fast ranging & engaging COM targets. Even w/the ballistic differences between .308 168gr match & the 7.62x54 BDC of the 1P21 it was very quick/easy to range & hit targets out to 750m (beyond that I had to take ballistic differences into account, for example to get hits at 900m I had to use the 875m setting on the 1P21).
Just remember that it's not designed for Western-style sniping (just "minute of bad guy") and that the magnification is tied directly to the BDC where magnification = range to target x 100m so 5x = 500m, 6.5x = 650m, etc. Once you understand how the reticle works it all becomes automatic:
Using the ranging box at the top of the reticle, increase magnification until measurement(s) of target matches measurement(s) on ranging box. When this is done look at the top of the reticle to read magnification & range (if it reads 4.5x then range is 450m, etc). The BDC is already set for that range so just hold dead-on w/the tip of the center inverted reticle and squeeze off the shot, couldn't be much simpler.
I believe the 1P21 is probably the best quick-use scope available for the Romak-3/PSL/SSG-97/etc.

Thanx for the info

I had one on my PSL for a short period of time and while the optics were good I found it much too heavy and cumbersome for my taste. I switched to the 8x posp pro mildot and really like it.

weights 1kg, like 2 pounds WOW and because it sits on the left side of rifle it tends to constantly pull the rifle to the side. That scope is maid for stationary weapon with tripod like PKM
