View Thread: OK German Style - "K"

Here's something I built a few years back - I started using it for my avatar and just felt like posting it

Here's a video of it in action

Homebuilt HK51K (.308 w/ 5" barrel) on a $100 Century rcvr (build cost was about $300) with a Transferrable Fleming sear pack

Marty shooting the same gun, another time (frozen still from video, un-retouched)

Sear packs have pretty much peaked out in price, and can be had for $12K or less. Still expensive but now is the time. Kill your cable (propaganda for sheeple = trash) quit buying music CD's, drive what you can buy for cash, and live cheap for a few years (the hell with impressing the Jones's) and you can afford one

It's all about priorities

Those shorties rule! Since your the sear packs registered did you have to sbr the K (since the sear can move on)?

cntrailrider
Lex -

No, the 'K' becomes a pistol (no forward grip) when the pack is removed. I can't see paying an extra $200 tax, when all I have to do is install the pack

Here's Marty on the Browning 1919. I converted it to 8mm & built the MG42 tripod adapter

Anyone bring marshmallows?

Happy New Year

Here's what my '51 first looked like, beneath a Vollmer-built '51. I never shoot the Vollmer because it's a very expensive gun ($4K w/o the sear pack) G3 kits were $100 and Centerfire was selling the collapsible stocks for $60. Clone cost about $300 to build
http://i524.photobucket.com/albums/cc324/cntrailrider/VolmervsMine.jpg
Cocking handle hung way out the front. My welding abilites were barely enough to pull it off and I'm still no expert. But after getting a little better, I went back and re-did it, by recessing the cocking slot into the rcvr. That also meant re-doing the tube & BC. You can see that barrel's been pretty hot. The handguard melted before installing a hanger for the pin

There are more links in the thread which explain the tricky areas. It's not simply a matter of shortening the barrel.....

The 're-do' was almost finished when I stumbled across this pic somewhere - most likely Sturm or Subguns
http://i524.photobucket.com/albums/cc324/cntrailrider/anhk51ksupershortversion3qp.jpg
I felt like the king of gun-world, until I saw that pic. Had to try one. It was not easy, and borrowed every lesson from the '51 but a whole lot more complicated. Dreamed about it 2-3 nights per week. Compacting everything, SO IT WOULD STILL FUNCTION was a challenge. Every 1/8" saved was considered a victory! I decided to stick with the two-pin endcap, though shorter single-pin versions have been built

Here's how it fit together before it was welded. It has a 5" barrel

After it was working and black-oxided

When the sear pack isn't installed, it reverts to a pistol

I'd strongly recommend you do a 51 before progressing to a 51K. Tricks are the same, but more advanced. 51K's (that work) are very rare. I attend several MG shoots, and have never seen another one, but there are a few out there. Recoil is comparable to an 8" AK pistol but the flash is MUCH larger, especially at dusk. The pic of Marty shooting it (above) shows the fireball is as long as she is tall. I have since slowed the rate down to about 600 rpm by lengthening the BC and shortening the cocking piece. Here's a vid of my CIII dealer shooting it after it was slowed down

It's a crowd pleaser!

that is sweeeeeeeeeeet :D . I have always had a soft spot for PDWs, ever since I had my AKS-74U built.......when VECTOR came out with the 89 clone pistol, I bought it, and it was the next day that I filled out the paperwork to SBR that puppy. :D

http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL1715/11951772/21243212/352362565.jpg

then when I got the VECTOR 53 pistol, I SBR'd that puppy as well. the only thing I did not like about it was that VECTOR uses a MP5 handguard, and it had a gap between the front of the mag well and the back of the handguard, so I got the correct handguard for it..........looks much better now :D

Thanks for the positive comments. Your guns look great. Rex Merril gave us a tour of Vector two Thanksgivings ago. They were building '53s RPD's & Uzi's. I...have never seen another one (51K) but there are a few out there...
I take that back - Vector built a VERY FEW 51K's (only on special order) and they were test-firing one during our visit. It cocked alot smoother than my homebuilt. Rex was amused when he first saw mine at KCR, and that's what led to the tour.
I have a Bobcat '89 (clone) and will post a pic. It's my favorite 9mm; extremely accurate with the stock (stock & grip only w/ sear pack). Neither of my '51s have ventilated HGs. They use standard MP5's. You know Ed (386) from OH. He called my cell when the HG was melting, after 3 consecutive mag dumps. "Whatcha doin?" "Holdin' a melting handguard!!". I made a "pin hangar" (on the triple tower/tube) to prevent that from happening again, and the HG was still salvagable. Ed & his wife visited last summer; here he is shootin' the 51K

And the Browning Shorty with 8mm Yugo

It was gettin' a little dry - skipped a couple beats there. But he enjoyed it :)

Just found this old video of the 51K. We video'd this for the friends who helped me with build advice. It was alot faster with the short BC. Still have that BC, but a 20 rd mag doesn't last long! Those were my pre-suspender days. It's also the video my avatar was lifted from

I've gotten more entertainment out of that sear pack than probably anything else I own

Same pack, different gun (ORF Beltfed '91) shot today 2-20-09
