I`ve seen the question posted here before but it didn`t get an answer. There`s got to be a tool designed for this. If not I can make my own but would like to find out anyway. Anyone know where to get one? Was going to start refinishing the stock soon. Thanks.

Hello fortis! For all of the mosin stocks that I have re-finished I used a pair of snap ring pliers, Works real well for me. I have yet to find a cross bolt nut that was difficult to remove. I have a French Mas 49/56 that I refinished years ago and all the nuts on it are similar to the Mosin's. I took an old flat blade screw driver and dremeld the center out of it leaving two prongs for the nut holes, I've been meaning to make one for a mosin but haven't got around to it. Remember to remove the bolt before separating the receiver from the stock or else it will spin on you. After wire brushing and reblueing the bolt and nut I use a small drop of lock-tight when I re-install into the re-finished stock.:small_gri

Hey thanks for the tips Mosinutty. I like the screwdriver idea. Could also borrow some snap ring pliers from my brother. Now just have to find the time to refinish. Thanks again.
