View Full Version : Where to get an RPK kit?
Where's the best place to get an RPK kit?
I know K-Var has them, but at $600 that's out of my range.
Does IO still have any?
Are they worth it?
I missed out on a NHM-91 at a local shop & am looking for more options.
Thanks.

io's kits, if they have any remaining, are well hammered romanian ones. the bbls. are shot out on every io kit that i've seen.
basically, the only kits that i know of, that are worth buying, are the current rpk-74 kits that k-var is selling.
Here's an idea someone should price out: Buy the parts individually and have a barrel made. An AK kit for $100, RPK wood for $39, a rear sight ($??), OOW receiver for $60, and have a barrel made for (and I'm guessing here) $200. I started with one of CampyBob's shot out I/O kits and had Meeper build a 5.45x39 RPK. A photo is posted in the RPK section. I think the total, built, price was less than a KVar kit. OK, I'm forgetting the US parts. Add about $50 more for FSE h/s/d, pistol grip, and piston. OK, another thing you wouldn't have is the heavier RPK trunion but you probably need to lose that anyway with any current stamped receiver. Bipod? I/O had new ones for $20 or 30.
