View Thread: legal advice before a Skorp build?
cberan
I have thought about buying a Skorpion Kit and before I start by build I just want to know what I have to do to make it 100% legal so I wont have any problems. The questions I am looking for are, what do I have to do with the dove tail in the rear for the folding stock? In my eyes its no different then an AR pistol and I should be able to leave it alone and not cut it off or weld it up, just never install it. But if the ATF see's it differently thats not a problem. The other question is what do I have to do to the receiver to make it legal? Do you have to make it impossible to put in the auto sear, grind the saftey selector down so it won't hold the disconnector back, weld a stop so the saftey selector so it can't be moved to the forward full auto position, or all the above?
By the way this is my first post and it looks like you guys have a nice site here.
To clear up any questions about what state I live in, its a state where they don't allow Shortened rifles or full auto weapons and I am not fond of hot prison man love so I want to do this by the book to the T. I know I should just buy one thats already been made, but I just don't have the money for it.
Thanks for any advice you guys or gals can give me.

You might want to check out weaponeer.net
There is a Skorpion build forum over there.

You MUST grind off any and all mounting points for the stock.

Can I ask why??? You can build a AR pistol and a stock can screw right into the lower. What is different in keeping the dovetail on the back of the skorpion and having an AR pistol? Some day I want to move out of the communist state that I live in and I want to apply for a shortened rifle stamp, and if I cut the dovetail off, I won't be able to install the stock back on.

ATF says you can't have anyway of mounting a stock on a pistol.

And I ask again, how do the AR guys get away with it? All you have to do is unscrew your buffer tube off of your AR pistol and take your stock and buffer tube off of your rifle and it will screw right in. Im not trying to start an argument, but why is it O.K. for one pistol but not another?

Normally the buttstock attachment part of the receiver is allowed. You might not want to have a buttstock around you while you have the pistol.

Many handguns such as the Luger, Browning HiPower, Mauser C-96, etc. have stock attachment points. There is an ATF letter out there that states a normal CAR buffer tube is OK on an AR pistol as long as the sliding stock part is removed, no mods needed. A stock attachment point is not a problem as long as you don't have the stock to go with it. Having the short bbl AND a stock that can be attached to it is looked upon as "constructive posession" of an SBR. Just have your brother or buddy hold it for you until you need it.

couldn't you weld the stock in the closed position like on a kp-44 or pps pistol build?

That's not allowed on all pistols. It would be something that would have to be approved as it is usually not allowed.

Thank you for your answers, would you happened to have the ATF rule number that says its O.K. to have the mounting points?
allesennogwat
Normally the rules don't say what is okay. They usually state what is not okay.

Thanks for the advice.
Now on to the full auto part, what do I have to do to the receiver. I already know to throw all the no no parts away and welded up the auto sear slot, ground off the little arm that holds the disconnector back. Do I have to weld a stop on the saftey so it won't even go to the full auto position, and if thats the case how do I disassemble the firearm, because thats how you take out the saftey selector, by turning it clockwise past the full auto position. Thanks for all your help so far.
Any other pointers you can give me on doing this the correct way would be greatly appreciated.
I have posted over at weaponeer.net and they seem to have contradicting info over there on allot of stuff.

What receiver are you using? The selector lever can go to the full auto position. It won't fire in full auto. As long as it's set up for the disconnector to catch the hammer every time and the hammer won't follow the bolt it will fire semi auto only.

The original one, I plan on welding it back together. I already have the kit, I will have to post some pictures as soon as I get all the legal details straightened out.

Im trying to post some pictures but they are all to big, does anyone know how to shrink it down a bit. I am not computer savvy at all.

This might be the easiest picture resizer for Windows.

Thanks, I will try and get them posted up tonight when I get home from work.

I give up, I have spent a total of 3 hours trying to resize my pictures. What gives, I don't have a problem downloading pictures on any other sites. I understand they take up space, but not that much. I'll keep trying but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I use irfan view.you can resize the pics in a matter of a minute or two and have em posted.you can also use photobucket, you can resize them there to.you can use them full size, use clickable thumb nails or what ever.with photo bucket, you search your computer, upload to PB,you can tell it to set it to any size.

Thanks, I will give it another shot tonight. My Skorpion is nothing compaired to that one though. I wish I could have a silencer and the folding stock on mine, but I live in the communist state of Illinois.
allesennogwat
The Skorpion silencer is a throw away. It has a lot of plastic and rubber that burns out. Use it and throw away. It's just a cheap one for one time use. So you must replace it for every use.
