View Thread: What do you Reccomend?

I just purchased a Utb Picatanny Front,Side and bottom rail. I was looking into buying a trijicon Red dot sight for it but reading into it more i am under the conclusion those sights are made specifically to fit on top of trijicon acog sights. Ill assume this is true and i dont have an extra $1,000 laying around right now to buy the acog. What do you guys reccomend? I hear a lot of eotech and other brands but i know very little about them, and would appreciate some advice. I would like to spend no more than $400 ballpark but i would like to have a reliable piece of equipment. Any comments are appreciated.
Thank you,
Andrew Allison

Bushnell holosights aren't bad, they are pretty much a slightly cheaper EOTech (250-300 tops I think). There are russian/belarus Kobra ones for 250ish out there as well.

Aimpoints are right in your price range and are top of the line quality. They have
zero parallax and you don't have to be concerned of where the dot is in the scope
as in some of the cheaper versions. If the dots on the target, the gun is on. Make
sure and get the 2 mil dot or 3 mil maximum size for a rifle. At 300 yards that
3 mil is 9 inches wide so it covers a lot. Be careful of copies on ebay.

I agree on the Eotech, I have a 511 on my .50 Beowulf and it works beutiful. Make sure to get the smallest dot you can find though BW is right, that Dot can cover a lot of target at range.
I also have a Bushnell Holosight on a Mini14 Ranch Rifle with the rail system on it, it is mounted in the Scout Rifle configuration. That one is also a excellent choice but is not a lot cheaper than the Eotech it is a copy of, for no more difference in rice I would go with the Eotech
I also have a ATN Digital Ultra, These are decent units and a lot cheaper, I had mine on my Beowulf for a while but the recoil shook the rubber button covers off of it so I took it off and mounted the Eotech with the RRA Co Witness mount under it.
I am selling the ATN Digital Ultra if you think you might want one of those, I would take $100 for it plus shipping (around $9 or $10 tops)
I have started moving away from non magnified or low powered scope as my eyes are getting REALLY Bad and therefore I need all the help I can get when it comes to Seeing my Target!!!
Speaking of magnifiers, you can also buy a 3x magnifier unit now to work with your Eotech or Aim Point, BUT,,, The name brand units are pricey (around $400) and are still only a 3x.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments guys. Now say i go with eotech and i shoot 100 yards average will my accuracy drop due to the dot covering a large portion of the target? would it be worth it to buy something with a slight magnification or reticule/dot combo to compensate? I ask because i have never owned a dot sight system on a rifle. Only pistols so i have no experience with shooting these things at range.
Thank you, Andrew

You sight in like a pistol, put the dot under the target and let the top of the dot
touch your impact point.

Any of you have any experience with the eotech magnifiers being used with the eotech red dot sights as a combo?

I think you need a much longer rail to use a magnifier or night vision with the red dot. Long like a M16 flat top AND a front rail. The red dots are faster on target without magnifying anyway.
