Folks, I know this was a bill started earlier this year, but no updates have yet been made available, even by the NRA.
Not too many people have been made aware (not enough in my opinion) about Senate Bill 1200 in Missouri. This bill is designed to code ammunition supplies so the Fed can track YOUR ammo and WHO bought it. The claim is that it is to aid in criminal investigations, but we all know that gun control laws only limit the rights of the law abiding.
SB1200 Fact: January 1, 2009 - all ammo manufacturers will be forced to code ALL bullets/rounds manufactured with a unique identifier to be tracked by a government database funded by a 1/2 cent tax PER BULLET.
Truth: They can not code the individual shot in a shotgun shell or birdshot, so they single out rifle/pistol shooters and reloaders.
SB1200 Fact: Sale of uncoded ammunition after March 1, 2009 will be a Class A Misdemeanor.
Truth: This means private or retail folks! But it does not mean that you can't "give" uncoded ammo away or "trade" it.
SB1200 Fact: Possession of uncoded ammunition by ANY person after January 1, 2011 will be a Class A Misdemeanor.
Truth: Ex Post Facto clause in the U.S. Constitution! If your possession takes place prior to such a law coming into effect, the possession can not be deemed unlawful UNLESS it is for health or deemed inherently dangerous to public safety. They'll have fun on this one in the U.S. Supreme Court.
Help us by writing your state officials and/or Missouri officials to help defeat this bill. California "slipped" a bill of similar nature/intent through a few years ago and it clearly does not work.
