View Thread: Can't get more than 28 rounds in a mag

sv_libertarian
I just bought a new bulgarian 30 rounder today (my first AK mag for my yet unbuilt kit) and for the life of me I can't get more than 28 rounds in the bugger. Am I missing something painfully obvious?

Hmm I've never had that problem could have a stiff spring I have a sten mag or my mac-11 that I can't hand load over 20rds because the stiff spring

are there any followers out there that could cause this? im thinking maybe from a non 30 rd mag??

Chicom - I think 10 round mags have a longer follower, with a normal follower they hold 12. That would account for the 2 round difference.

I am wondering if these are the same "new" (refurbished and repainted) "Bulgarian" (HA! - Romy probably) mags I had the misfortune of buying.

If its a painted black follower, its not new (nor probably bulgarian) so may well have the wrong follower.

It's matching black looking parkerized finish. The mag has a little number 10 and some odd squiggly looking thing stamped on it. 26 or 27 rounds are easier to insert.
I might order a Tapco follower, do you think that would help?

I hope the mags I have coming from Aim aren't this screwed up, 2 of their used mags, and two of their "new" still wrapped bulgarian mags...

is the 10 in a circle? isnt that a chinese thing? squiggly sounds chinese to me to :)

maybe someone had a lot of chicoms and confused the followers?

sv_libertarian
No not a 10 in a circle, just a number 10. The squiggly thing isn't chicom markings, it is hard to describe, but is a symbol, not a language character.

I am a firm believer of only loading 25 rounds anyway. Helps with jams, easier to load, long term storage, there's 25 rounds in a box, SO many reasons.

As of tonight, we need to be able to get all ammo possible in all mags! :sad_small

As of today AIM Surplus has changed their shipping delay notice from 1-2 working days to 4-5 working days.

Fixed it. Turns out the follower was not properly seated on the spring. Once I did that, it took all 30 rounds nice and easy.
