View Thread: Chinese Fiberglass stock

I just picked up a Norinco with a red fiberglass stock. can anybody tell me a bit more about these like when they came in and what it might be worth.

Without pic. or descr. thats hard to do. The chin. started using fiberglass stocks in 64 alledgedly for use in Nam, but never proven. they also stated using spikes as of 66. It is virtually imp. to date the maj. of sks rifles, most likely yours came without clean. rod or bay. If it is an original stock and handguard, or a later replacement is also imp. to tell for sure! There were at least 3 types of stocks and guards, they earliest had swivel on bottem and the handguard was texturized but not ribbed.
The oldest stocks till 66 had a narrow groove for the blade instead of a wide one
and the metal handguard ferrule had a V cut in it instead of a U.
In the 80s + 90s many fiberstocks were imp. to replace damaged wood ones, saw 1 for $9.00 at show a few months ago. On net those stocks go for $30.-50.
The original springs for those came with wire spring attach. instead of leather tabs. While for a while in the 90s many people did use the fiber stocks and a comp. here actually sold them in different colors, but now you dont see many fiberglass original reddish stocks, but ones made by many comp.
Even with original stock its somewhat rare, but has maybe less value than a clean wood stock, but sks wood stocks were a cheap wood that messed up easy, if gun is in exc. shape value is $225.-$300.
Till i see pic. and a description of markings in the trianangle, as well as ser. nos.
there isnt much more i can tell you!

Here is a pic it has a bayonet and from looking at it it looks like the stock is original. It was imported by trident Arm and the Triangle mark is a upside down triangle with a live on each side. I will try to get a better pic up.

The above is the best there is, but a lot about the ch. sks is and will be unknown! It does seem like your rifle is very nice and all original from what i can see, except the sling is not the type usually associated with a fiber stock, since those had metal wire attach. not leather. I was pleasantly suprised the gun came with bay.rod.and original mag.
Most are missing those, due to code 922 keep the receipt for the gun safe, since on most date of man. cant be determined and its up to owner to prove
date of purch. and or import, that could save you some trouble legally!
So i would guess that it has been well kept a long time, what are the numbers in the triangle?
If you dont mind me asking, how much was it and where did you get it.
I bought one recently at a pawnshop marked $249. in tn. in almost mint, but the blade bay. was missing as well as rod, and bubba had replaced original mag.
with a 40 round one, i got mine for $200.+tax which was a great deal, but mine is an early 64-66 version with the blade, i got it back to original shape and it also has a unknown extremely rare code 405 in the triangle, so mine is rare but really not worth much more than others from what i could find out, if you want the original type sling, centerfire was selling those for $2.99 recent. Make sure you clean it really good, mainly firing pin and bolt, 99.9% of mags that are high-cap will not work proper, anything else i can help you with either post or send a pm!

If you look at the factory codes chart on this link ming is the second from the last.

I got it for $175 I did not think that was a bad deal Im kind of hoping to use it to help fund another AK or AR build but not sure I shot it yesterday and forgot how much nicer they shoot then a AK I mean ofr hand at 25 yards the thing is a tack driver it just pulls up better than Aks do but it does not handle nearly as well.
Thanks for the info
