View Thread: To chop or not to chop...

I read a killer review by Peter Kokalis few months ago about the new SLR-UR 107 Bulgi SBR ready Krinks...their utmost reliability and rugged design.
I finally got it. Got the Form 1 and all the necessary signatures/ready to me mailed out.

I test fired the gun today before shipping it of to get it properly converted.

Wow, what a great machine it is. Light, accurate, compact and yet so powerful. I am having second thought about chopping the barrel. Mainly because the fps will be reduced from 2350 to nearly 1780. Thats almost 25 per cent. Thats quite a drawback for me. I got 6 inch group prone at 170 meters. not bad at all.

When the barrel will be cut all that will change.

what do you guys think? i am wrong?
thanks

hi,I'm thinking about doing the sbr thing to mine too,how much is your gunsmith charging you?

Barrel length affects velocity, but has nothing to do with accuracy.

What is the intended purpose of the gun? For fun? Make lots of noise and get the rest of the line at the range lookin your way? Cut that sucker down!

If you were a real "operator" you probably wouldn't be using that gun in the first place, and wouldn't be here on the interweb asking this question.

1780 FPS is still nothing to sneeze at........the purpose of short barrel AKs, was to have a light and very compact weapon that was to be used by armored vehicle crewman, security forces, etc... to fire a rifle round.

shorty AKs, like the AKS-74U, M92s, are PDWs with a lot of punch to them

HAHAHAHA "barrel length affects velocity, but has nothing to do with accuracy"

So i guess i am not the "real operator" here huh? I am just a stupid newbie asking such bizarre questions..

hey buddy , go get a basic high school physics textbook and learn about centripetal (some call it centrifugal) force. They apply it to the ballistics of bullet stabilization as it passes through your barrel.

Thanks man! i hear ya, i was just debating whether to go through with the process and all...200$ additional to the feds..waiting, getting printed/sheriff signing off on the form, sending/waiting.

I was just brainstorming, seeing some guys went through the same course and found it worth it, thats all.

I went through the paperwork to SBR 3 of mine firearms.........it was worth it for me, as I just couldn't see myself putting some hokey and stupid looking fake can on any of these.

Go for it, krinks were ment to be krinks. Aside from that do you really plan on shooting past 100 yards with a shotry very often, I wouldnt figure so. If I wanted to shoot far I could think of quite a few better choices than the krinkov.

Thanks for the info!

i was definetly not planning using that SBR past 120-130 meters. I was more worrying about having enough energy depositing through a level 2-3 type body armor. Regular 7.62 at 16.2 inches will do the trick, however this reduction in velocity might be compromised. dont know. Will let you know once i get it!

why would you be "worried" about that?

I wouldnt be too worried about lack of penetration of the 7.62x39mm cartrige, just stick with FMJ and I doubt you would ever be challenged in that reguard.

16r, those are some SWEET SBRs! The Osama special is pretty awsome.

I SAY CHOP!!! A KRINK IS MEANT TO BE A KRINK! I would if I could.

Whats your guys opinion on 5.45 AKSU's versus 7,62 AKSU's???

I have a 5,45 AKSU, with a fake can, but its still awesome. Anyhow, it seems whichever you have, you end up wanting the other too....
Im happy with the 5,45 krink, since the 45rd bakeys are so cool with it, and the ammo is cheap and plentiful,
but now im startin to see the benefits of a 7,62 krink.
I try 2 tell myself a 762 U/F is PRETTY much the same thing,.....but it aint.

I am considering buying a Arsenal 107 that local gun dealer has for $999 and getting a Krink made out of it. But, would rather have a milled receiver. If I did have the 107, though, there would be no question about what to do with it, it is an ugly gun as it is.

levi7.62
chomama1- Why milled krink????
I dont see why youd need one. The milled receiver doesnt offer any decided advantage over the stamped versions, if they did, the soviets wouldve brought the milled variants back in the 90's.
thats not to say that a nice milled AK47 is a great rifle to own, but the Stamped receiver is as strong as you'll ever need it to be with the 7,62 round.
Although, the bulgarians actually did issue a milled AKSU underfolder to police forces, not many, but they did.
It was also sold as a souvenier/collector gun by arsenal, dont know if they are in prodcution yet..prolly too expensive

Thanks Levi, yeah I know the stamped guns are OK and I am now considering them. I talked to a gal at Arsenal and they are gonna put one of their milled krinks on Gunbroker.com for $2,900. I guess they only made 20 for sale. I am watching for it, but so far have not seen it on Gunbroker. There is a nice Krink (stamped) in AZ on Gunbroker, has the fake suppressor, for $1199.00, I may buy it and have it sent to Piece of History Firearms to shorten it and do the cyrillic markings. I guess there are none, or next to no, krink kits out there.
