i cant think of many others that can do this with a 3.5 power scope.
bart
the only bad thing that ive heard that i some what believe about a nagant is that more soldiers were shot with friendly fire from trying to use the safety in cold weather than were shot from not having them on safety at all.
bart
oh yea,Damn fine shooting man!!
TarZero
Now THAT'S using a rifle as intended! Great shooting!

There is a fix to the safety problem.
Take a look at this;
http://www.gswagner.com/mosin-nagant/safe/safe.html
It was still a little hard to grab with thick gloves on so I cliped on my release that I use with my compound bow. No problem now, I wonder how many Russans would be alive today if they would have only fixed it like this?
And, Great shooting!!
I do good to shoot 400yds, but I use iron sites.
BFT!
I'm about to make an idiot statement: you mean to tell me that there is a safety on my m44? I never could I.D. one so I thought it didn't have one.
BFT!
I've had the carbine for two years and kept it unloaded due to not knowing about the safety. Just used it for the first time. Thanks guys.

I'd kill for a range like that :laugh_sma
we're movin somewheres cooler when my wife's parents pass and I told her it's got to be within 30 mins of a range with at least 400 yards or else :D
akjim
last fall as a goof we tried to shoot the nose off a full sized deer silhouette at 100 yards. We consistantly hit it with iron sites only on a bench rest. Great rifle. I'd love to see what you could do at 400 yards.
Firefly
For the money you can't beat them.Stout, reliable, and reasonably accurate, and the 7.62x54 is a powerful round.Plus ammo is cheap.I love mosins. They are great for people on the lower to middle incomes.
mosinutty
The only thing I don't like about Nagant's is that they are such a good deal for the money I can't stop buying them. The girlfriend say's " Don't you have a couple of those?" Then I give her the classic "uhhhhh....well...Kinda, But this one is different!" :wink_smal
ambivolent
I like the nagant's I'll get one once my bills are caught up and then stock up on a few thousand rounds!

+1 you won't regret it.A true bargain for the money.with practice it's an effective rifle.

yea I got the opprotunity to shoot one about 4 years ago it was a blast I just had to get the guns I wanted that would be on the chopping block if certian people were to get in power, I'm known at my local gun store as the kid who collects black rifles LOL but once bills are payed I'm getting one or two Definantly
my-rifle
That looks like a sniper rifle. Is it original or a repro? It sure shoots damned well.
Bascot
It kicks like a mule though. Especially with 200gr Sellier Bellot ammo.
It'll be nice to get mine back next week and try it out with the 7N1 sniper ammo, as I believe it is 145gr.

Nice shooting, superb range too! :)

That was fun to watch!

3 out of 5 twice at 1000 yards.

Imagine what you could do with some .314 or .316 cast loads where the bullet is actually grabbing the rifling :small_gri
well done
that's my kind of rifle range
Cerberus
Swabbie, I am wondering. The x54 that I've measured with a micrometer only shows .309". I think the Ruskies kept the bullet diameter smaller due to machining variances during wartime production. Being good frugal commies, they probably built their deephole drill bits at the top of the tolerance, and kept using it until it was worn to the bottom of the tolerance. In fact I've even seen this on US made stuff on occasion.
Just my opinion though.
swabbie
I bet you are correct..most falls in the 310 range as that's what the 3 line rifle measures out at..
I'd like to have a Finn with a decent barrel, but I'll continue to cast oversize ...I'm not much of a marksman with anything except my 20" HBAR 223 with the 2 lb JP enterprises trigger anyway :rofl_smal
If you find a mosin with a bore of .312 or less, jump on it....
southern boy
you can look around on pat burns site for mirror bore mosins

I just recently aquired a 44 that was unissued, took me 3 hours to get that gunk off it. And i definantly do not want to tick off southernboy,,,,,,,,,unless im a 2000 yards
swabbie
take ur M44 out to ur local range around sunset..you will be in for a real treat :laugh_sma :laugh_sma
sit next to somebody shootin a real hi-dollar rifle..preferably with a spottin scope and a shootin jacket

Oh yeah! I Took a video with my cell phone one day at the range of Dad shooting an M-44, Wow, Pretty impressive! I was shooting an M-38 one day while some guys were setting up for a .22 cal. bench rest match. They weren't real happy with me. But what kinda stupid idiot would try to carry on a conversation with others on the firing line, and then get mad because they can't here one another? I told them McDonald's might be a better place for them to gab like old women!:laugh_sma
bill3542
the old M-38s do make great shooters if there in good condition, im not a expert marksman but i figure 6 out of 10 on a 8 inch gong at 450 yds with open sights aint to bad. this was 1943 M-38 shooting 1960s czech silvertip ammo.
mosinutty
If you have never shot your Mosin from a good sturdy rifle rest, give it a try. I took my Izy M-38 and shot from a rest using mil-surp ammo and was amazed at the accuracy. I guess that means I move a lot shooting unrested!:laugh_sma
GUTS
I shoot the 1000yd 6ft gong at our club range all the time with my 1945 Izzy. I shoot offhand with iron sights and my best is nine out of twelve. The video is nice but doesn't impress me much since the guy is using a scope and a rest. What does impress me is the how fine the MOSIN shoots.

The Mosin is a POOR rifle alright. It's the ideal rifle own if your, too POOR to go out and spend a $1000 dollars to buy an AR-15, or an M1 Garand. It's also the ideal rifle for me to take out to the range on days when I'm too POOR to buy .303 ammo for my enfield. In fact given the cost of ownership and ammo, the mosin is the hands down winner for being the most ecconomical way to send hi-powered lead down range. So I think I like that title. "The Poor Rifle" I'm happy to say that I'm the owner of 2 POOR rifles. I hope to make that 3 POOR rifles very soon.
uncledoodoo
I felt privileged to own some of these rifles yesterday as I shot with my son who nailed an orange clay target from 150 yard with iron sites on his first shot. This is one of those rifles that in 20 years people will kick themselves for not purchasing when they could be had for under $100. I've got two, one more on order, and plan to buy another in a few days.
southern boy
i honestly think every person in the US should be issued one when they hit 18.
and be trained in its proper usage.
