View Full Version : Your gun DOESNT need any spare parts???
Have a Romainian SAR1 and was looking all over to find some
spare parts for it. Ie..springs,firing pin anything that might be good to have as a possible problem part for back-up.
Not knowing what parts are interchangable with my gun, I called
Arsenal USA and Gloabal Trade.(one company not two). The guy I spoke
with acted like I was carzy for wanting some spare parts! He told me,
and I quote..." In all the history of machine guns and autofires theres
never been a documented case of the firing pin breaking". Huh?????
Well what about some springs for the trigger group? (quote)
"You own an AK they're not going to have ANY problems so Im
not going to sell you something I dont think you need".
Well I apprciate your honesty but is this info correct?

I got a feeling that guy won't be around too long after his boss finds out he's been turning away a paying customer.......if I was taking your order i would be saying things like, "you might also want to consider buying a spare barrel as part of you spare parts kit......who knows what will happen if kerry wins, might want to think about that.......also have you seen our line of AKs?"

Yes my thoughts exactly. As you can see, I am a new member to this site. With that in mind can you tell me
where and how to access info about your AK's? I have tried to find out what is truely some spare parts for the AK's that might be vulnerable to breaking or needing replacement. I would assume that the firing pin is #1 on the list. Is this correct? What would e some other parts I should be looking to procure? What about the springs in the fire control group? I dont notice that much trigger slap from mine, but have been considering replacing the
parts to take care of any future problems with trigger slap.

Some common things to have if you plan on shooting your AK a TON are:
1. Complete trigger group-new hammer spring, disconnector, disconnector spring, trigger, hammer..etc.
2. New matching front end with bolt and gas piston...
Basically one of the MANY parts kits floating around will keep you stocked with all the parts you need that "might" go bad...although I've fied over 5,000+ rounds in my AK's and have never had a part mess up or break. Even my mags have all been solid. :D :ak47: Has much as I hate to say it...an AK is NOT an ar15...in my experiences the ar15 has MANy more parts that are prone to breakage.

what I would do is buy yourself a parts kit..........this way, if anything does break, you'll have all of the spares for every part of the gun.........just a sugguestion, but trying to figure out what might break down the road is really guess work.......take the guesswork out of it and get all the spare parts in one fell swoop.

And you would also want to get another receiver in case that ever went bad. Of course, the most convenient way to store those extra parts would be to mount them to the receiver, you know keep them all in one place? :small_gri

I have 2 ORF-built AK-74's from demilled virgin Bulgarian AK-74's. For spare parts I have a spare Romy folder, 2 spare K-Var Bulgarian AK-74 bbl assemblies (complete w/front & rear sights, AK-74 muzzle brake, cleaning rod, front trunnion, receiver cover, recoil spring assy, bolt & bolt carrier w/gas piston), 2 Tapco G2 fcg's plus a few spare springs. I don't expect to need any of these during my lifetime but they might come in handy during my son's lifetime. AK parts are cheap and plentiful *now* but who knows what the future holds. Better to have 'em and not need 'em than to need 'em and not have 'em...

I would definitely buy some spare parts. I have a large supply for my L1A1, lacking only a lower to be able to build a complete rifle with the received on my current rifle. When I bought the L1A1 parts they were plentiful and cheap. Now I note that a lot of those same parts seem to be getting scarce and more expensive. The same is likely to hold true, even more so probably, for AK parts. It is certainly a good idea to have somethings on hand, like the fcg, that are known to mess up from time to time. They don't take up much space in the workshop or storage cabinet and are very good insurance.

While spares are never a bad idea, I would not sweet not having any. If you are concerned, get a parts kit as some of the others have mentioned.
Your money would probably be better spent buying up some ammo or mags. 1000 rounds for around $80 is pretty cheap and it may not always be that way.

I picked up some original (chinese polytech) spare parts about 11 years ago from Kengs havent used them yet and my norinco NHM-91 has about 7000 rds through it.i thing i did have done was the hammer was removed and front face was dressed up with a file,it wasnt hitting the bolt-firing pin square and true.sometimes it would misfire due to light strikes works great now after having this done and its internals are all original norinco parts.maybe in 10 years Ill need but will see how it holds up.should have bought 2 of these NHM-91 years ago when they were 250 bucks a pop.
Uhhuh...
I saw them at a gunshow recently - needed a sling swivel for my side folder and an AK slant brake....he thought the swivel might be able to be used...after taking it out of the package I could tell I couldn't - it was solidly welded together as a single piece.
And the slant brake wasn't even threaded! He knew I needed a threaded one as I had the preban AK with me. Sold me $17 in useless parts that I couldn't use.
As for spare parts....I ordered one of these tonite: Seems like a decent enough deal. Maybe someone will even buy the damn butt ugly thumbhole buttstock from me as I sure as anything won't ever "need" it :)

"•Includes all parts minus receiver and front and rear trunnion •New condition parts. •Chrome lined barrel •No Trigger Guard "
no trunions?
no triggerguard?
So you're getting a barrel that only fits on Norinco trunions (it's chamber-threaded) and no trunions?
Surely you can get a better deal on a more complete parts kit. I bought my AMD63 parts kit for $150 -- with trunions and triggerguard.

I was simply looking for backup/replacement parts for my preban CHINESE (Norinco and Poly) AKs so this was the deal for me.
I don't need the postban barrell assembly nor buttugly buttstock so sold them on Ebay for $56 leaving me with the remaining AK parts for less than $50. Most people ask double that for the bolt and carrier alone.

Well, I have broken firing pins in a Remington Rolling Block and a Dan Wesson .357. Firing pins do break, did so in these two finely made firearms, so I feel pretty sure that they will also break in a SAR-1 under the right conditions. It may never happen, but we buy insurance for things that may never happen, so why not a few spare parts.
