What is the best way to get a CLEO to sign for a SBR. Just show up with paper work or what? Seems it would look bad to just call and ask, but I don't want to keep wandering. What to do???

I would just call and ask. How would that "look bad"? You're just asking a legitimate question.

it's best to call, unless you live in a small hick town like mayberry population 100, where he knows you on a first name basis, chiefs usually don't like people popping in out of the blue without them at least knowing, and for what.......... I called and asked to speak to the chief, if they ask you why, just say you want to talk to him about signing some documents.......when you get a hold of him, don't say something dumb like, "will you sign my form 1?" it sounds wishy washy and besides that you are giving him a option, by saying "will you?"........give your name, and say something to the effect, "I NEED for you to sign my ATF form 1, when would it be convienent for you to have me come down and drop it off?"

now some chiefs, are clueless about what a ATF form1 is, my chief wasn't, he knew what it is and told me to drop it off in a envelope ith my name and phone number to the desk Sgt, and he would call me back when it's signed, he called me the same day that it will be at the desk and I can pick it up anytime.......now this is my chief............ but, if you have to exsplain what it is, say something to the effect, "it's a ATF application form for me making a short barrel rifle, and you have to sign it saying that there is no state or local law that would put me in violation of having one"....now if he starts to field you questions, you are on your own there, as I can't read what maybe in his mind on what kind of question he will be asking.......but I will tell you this, don't go into a blabbering idiot mode, just answer the question short and sweet, with confidence, and don't be wishy washy about it.

I don't know why it is, but most people are scared to call their chief, it isn't like he is going to drag you out in the street and shoot you for asking.......after a couple guys asked me about my AKS-74U and how they would like one also, and asked how I got it, I said, " I did the necesary forms, called the chief to sign it, wrote a check for 200 bucks and mailed it off" they stated that their chief would never sign, I said "well how do you know without asking?" the answser I got back, "I just know".

also, if you don't already know, you will need to send more then just 2 copies of the form 1s, you also need to send 2 sets of fingerprints, 2 passport photos, and the citizenship form.
