I am going to do a SBR AMD65. Do I need to wait on buying the receiver because I have to get my name and stuff stamped on it or was I mislead by somebody. I figure this is the best place to get info on this type of thing. How much will the whole form 1 process cost me. Thanks

you are going to have the buy the receiver first, so that info on that can be written on the form 1, serial number, manufaturer.......if you are going to have your name engraved on it, you can do that anytime, the thing that the NFA branch wants to know to process the paperwork, is what is in those blocks.
as for how much it will cost you, 200 dollars one time tax, and of course the postage to send it to the NFA branch.

Here's how I do it.
Buy the receiver. Record the info on the Form 1, get the CLEO sign off and get it in the mail. The sooner you mail it the sooner you get it back. Last Form 1 I did took 39 days out and back.
While I was waiting, I got the required engravings done on the receiver. Remember they have to meet certain specs. Hopefully you can find someone local. If not, I recommend Orion Arms Engraving. 1st class work done fast.
When the Form 1 comes back, you are good to go.
By the way, you don't want the receiver and a short barrel in the same place. If you have the parts kit already, let a friend hold onto the barrel 'till you get the ok to build. You just never know.

Where will I get the information on what the receiver has to have on it? Will I have to be 922r compliant or will it not apply to an SBR build. Thanks

all the info is already on the 100 percent receiver, ............ you just have to transpose that info on the form 1, manufaturers name and location(city and state), model number, caliber, serial number.
as for 922r, the tech branch stated that making a a NFA weapons does not have to be 922r compliant, since that law only applies to "nonsporting" firearms, not NFA firearms

If you are building it yourself, you will have to engrave your name, city and state somewhere visible on the reciever.
When you fill out the Form 1, put the receiver manufacturers info in section 4 which covers the name, caliber, model, barrel length, overall lenght, and the serial number. Measure overall length with the stock open.
In section 4h, it asks for "Additional Description". This is where you will list your name, city and state. You can use common abreviations. I use 1st initial, last name, city, and state abreviation. example ( J Smith Anytown, PA )

Thekaiser, can you post the ATF reg stating you are required to engrave YOUR information for assembling the SBR.
There has been a continuing debate about this and so far noone has posted the requirement for a home builder to engrave their info for a SBR. The manufacturer of the firearm is Nodak, OOW, GT, etc... you are merely modifying the firearm.

If the receiver is already marked by a maker that should be enough for a short barrel rifle. A SBR, unlike a machinegun, can be removed from the NFA and returned to a title 1 firearm.
