Handled one a while ago and kinda liked it...anyone shooting one of these at the moment?

I'm talking about the new one...not the original 1917.

Lets have your views fellas.

sorry son,,,,,I've got the Model 642 in 38 + P for my car conceal that is a nice little handgun. It's the single six ruger for me in 22, might as well be able to hit something at more then 10 feet. But then again with your capabilities you or the misses would probably be accurate with the model 22 at 25 silly yards.

model 22s with hi-vis sight

heavy. don't like the hi-vis sight. has a recoil buffer that gets beat up after 1000 rounds. broke the firing pin after 2000.

the follower in the mag hangs up after the first round is fired with 10 rounds loaded. I have around 8 magazines and they all do it.

buy the browning Buckmark with the metal rear sight base.

Exile, I'm a little confused, you talking about the 45acp in the new version of the 1950 army? If you are I don't see a purpose to the gun, it still needs moon clips
to eject properly or rimmed cases. I love Smiths and don't doubt the guns quality. I have a colt ssa in 45 acp which doesn't have the extractor problems
and still went out and had a 45 lc cylinder fitted to it. m2c

Used to have a 1950 model in 44 special. Great gun. The 22 would be a better self defense gun as you can use full moon clips for reloads. Id get one if I wanted a big revolver for carry. You can get 45 auto rim ammo if the clips bother you.

Yup that's the one BW. Yeah it's a bit of a wierd one I know but would probably fit the paper punching bill here for a very specific comp I shoot really badly in with the 9mm. Think it's all in my head, but I realy don't like 9mm, much prefer the .45ACP...it's my All American soul I guess.

After posting this I read a review on-line which said it was a well made revolver but pulled no big punches in the accuracy stakes....2-3 MOA benched at 25 Yards.

If you remember....and I know you do as you helped me no end, I was looking to change out the rear sight to fixed on my SA 1911 TM. Well they decided that will not be allowed next year so it's a case of finding something else.

The Mod 22 I liked the look of and it's 'Règlementaire' in that it's a military revolver with fixed sights in a military calibre.

After reading that review I reckon it's not such a good choice, I'd kinda hoped it would produced groups like the S&W 625 I had....that was pretty astounding in the accuracy dept.

Looks like it's back to a SIG P220 in .45ACP. :o

S&W quality isn't what it used to be. I have an original 1917 I bought years ago. I shortened the barrel and rounded the butt to an N-frame round butt shape, which is slightly larger and less rounded than the K and L-frame round butt.

I am in total agreement on the 45 acp over a 9mm. I shot a deer in heavy fog
once and it was facing away with it's head turned back looking at me. Ran up
the hill and of coarse it was still alive. Put three rounds of 9mm into it's head
with a ruger 357 conv. and didn't do a thing. Turned the gun around and cracked
its skull, gashed my hand on the front sight and of coarse bent the gun. Skinned
it out and there were three dents where the rounds bounced off. Probably have
never given it a fair shake since, but just can't get the accuracy out of my hi-
power that I do out of the worst of my 1911's. I like the heavy roll of the acp
over the snap of a 9 also. It's nice to have choices! :smile_sma
The sig is nice for grabbing off a table. They sit at an angle with the grip up
so for idpa shoots they seemed to work well. Got a friend that loved them until
he pinched his hand in the slide bad enough to need stitches. Bled bad enough
we thought he shot himself in the hand at first. I didn't care for amount of stuff
sticking out on the gun, kinda robo-cop like the early ruger semi autos in the
mid 90's.
Something to look into on any euro gun is the depth of the barrel lands. They
are not as deep and "supposedly" don't shoot lead as well as american barrels.
I had a 40 in a p94 ruger, that for as big a clunker as it was, would outshoot
any 40 I have seen before or since. Even the sheriffs armorer walked over to
me one day and asked what I was shooting, then replied "I can't get our glocks
or hk's to shoot like that." I can only attribute it to the fact I shot lead instead
of jacketed.
All that said, that smith might shoot like a house on fire with some hand
tuned 200 grn semi wad cutters.

Nope.

When the heavy fog is out...I just use my AMT .22Mag, or Model 629 .44 for a few rounds....the muzzle flash clears up the fog in no time. :)
