View Thread: Would you trade an FN FAL for a Valmet Hunter in .223?

chipsndukes
I have a CMP Armory built StG58 FN FAL, value about $1000-$1200.

A friend has a Valmet Hunter in .223, it is NIB and he would like to trade me for it.

I was originally planning to sell the FN outright, but if this would be a positive trade, I would rather help my friend, and at the same time get into something that would be perhaps easier to sell.

What do you guys think? :)

Thanks,
Chipsndukes

I'm no expert but I see that Valmet Hunters in 308 are going for $1700 to $1800. So it might be in ur favor dollars & cents wise.

Valmets are very cool....but....ever tried to find mags for them?

Ever priced the mags for them....if....you can even find them?

Thanks guys, I just don't want to get upside-down trying to help a friend.

I don't plan on keeping the rifle, it just doesn't "speak" to me.

But if, because of it's unfired condition and rare status it were easy to sell for $1000, I would do the deal. The FN will also be easy to sell for that money, but I will be helping out a friend by taking the Valmet.

Thanks,
Chipsndukes

I don't think you'd be "upside down" you'd move it eventually, and probably make out alright, it just might take a while to move it. Especially in that caliber.

I have this posted on Gunboards as well, and so far there is not an overwhelming resonance for the Valmet, which is what I would need to do the trade.

I appreciate your comments,

If you don't really want either I wouldn't entangle yourself. Both of you put
them up for sale and if his sells first he can buy yours. There are plenty of them
out there if he misses getting yours. If he's a really good friend, make the trade,
the money is of little importance, unless you are in need of selling to raise cash.

Since this weapon is in 223, would an AR mag adapter for a Galil fit it? Just a thought.

OK, I appreciate all the replies. I'll take a look at it tonight, but it doesn't sound like I'd be moving up in terms of being able to get rid of the firearm. Who knows, but there's a risk in buying a "rare" firearm like that. You could hit it big, or die trying, I don't want the latter.

Thanks, guys,

I don't think so.

I would ask these guys about the availability of mags.

Basically, forget factory mags. Unless you want to spend A LOT of money.

Maybe some Tromix converted mags floating around somewhere.

Or possibly some converted Bulgarians or German mags?

Nothing against the rifle. They are great rifles. (As long as you don't get a plastic buttstock.)

It's just that mags and other parts are very scarce and expensive.

If it were me I would jump on that. But then again I am a Valmet nut. $1000 is nothing for a new in box 223 hunter. Very few 223 hunters were ever made. If you have pics post them.
