I was looking into building something like this. I know I would need to purchase the Norinco 56S. But I was wanting to know from others (I know some folks have built some Norinco Hunter/Galil conversions) what all would be needed to create a copy of the one pictured above.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

This is the way to go. You can get a milled hunter for around $350.

Norinco, what all work and parts did you put into it? I'm very interested.
NorincoKid
uh
AMD grip
Galil wood handgaurd, fits OK, not great yet. Had to make a spacer at the handgaurd retainer. I can take a pic of that if you want.
Gas tube with flanges removed, or you could use a Saiga tube.
Ace stock, internal block
Partially ground down RSB, not done yet.
Blackthorne Top cover with AR sight (lil pricey)
I still gotta buy a Galil bolt carrier, and try to see if a Galil gas block will fit, not sure. Probably go ACE clamp on if I cant get it to fit.
And I live in NY so I cant put a bird cage flash hider on it, BUT!!!!! Im going to take one, drill it out and slip it over the end of the barrel and cover up the step down in diameter. Its the perfect length.
Then, just wanna see if I can get it to take Galil mags.

If you have trouble finding a bolt carrier let me know, I have spares.

The bolt diameter is different between the galil and the WASR-3. If a Galil bolt will headspace and feed from the magazine you might be able to use the Galil bolt carrier and Galil bolt together. The cheaper and maybe better way is to buy a cheap ($5) SKS bolt carrier and an AK74 bolt carrier. Have the SKS bolt carrier handle cut off and welded vertically to the AK74 bolt carrier. Then you can use the original WASR-3 bolt.

Is the bolt carrier different from an AK47 to a 74? The reason I ask this is that I have used AK47 bolt carriers in all of my Galils, 7.62 & 5.56 with out any problems.
NorincoKid
I thought the carrier itself was interchangeble. I was going to use the Galil carrier with my .223 bolt
loner42
The main difference is not so much the carrier itself but the bolt shank dia.
They are all different , at least i know that a 7.62 AKM, and 223 AKM, and Galil 223 are different sizes on the bolt shank as well as the boltface dia.
Why not use the WASR3 bolt and carrier ?
NorincoKid
Eh, If a Galil carrier can work, its easier than trying to find someone to hack and weld my carrier.
I figure a Galil 223 bolt and AK 223 bolt were the same, but I dont really know.
loner42
I know that a Galil 223 bolt has a bigger dia. shank than a Saiga 223 bolt therefore the Saiga bolt was too sloppy in the Galil carrier, I physically tried it.
Seems like you could find someone to modify your carrier to work. That should be less hassle than the other way.

Is there a source for measurments etc on AK bolts? Or can anybody mike a galil bolt?
Im getting .349 on the shank of my 223 bolt
loner42
Don't have the Galil bolt here as i returned the gun to Century , but it seems like it was around .430 .I remember i had it in a 7/16 collet.................... And the Saiga bolt was around .350 so you can see by that it would be loosie goosie.

On the shank , spring loaded pin version 0.422" , other one is 0.424"(free floating pin).
Both are IMI Bolts. Hope this helps. Oh, these are Galil bolts.
