View Thread: Anybody else have a Romanian M44?

I bought a couple of Romanian M44s in 2006, and I haven't fired them since getting them. Frankly I didn't like the way they looked. Last weekend, though I took one out, and Damn! It has the sweetest trigger I have ever felt - on ANY gun. It's very difficult to touch the trigger without firing the rifle. There's no question of squeezing it or not, because as soon as you touch that trigger - BOOM! None of my other M44's are particularly accurate, but this one is astounding. Are Romanian MN's known for light triggers?

I don't know the rifles at all, but I would point that thing down range and
smack the butt hard to make sure it's safe. Even slapping the butt on the
ground hard with an empty gun before you take it out again. There is a
difference in a worn out seer and a worked trigger. IMHO

They had some at the new sporting goods store when it opened but I did not pick one up.I may have to look and see if they do and put one on layaway.I just spent my cash on a enfield .308 from aimsurplus it is sweet.td

I shoot my M44 regularly and it does not have a hair trigger. I have never know any Mosin Nagant to have particulalry light triggers.
You should have that gun looked at.

Since I don't use it for hunting I don't ever plan on carrying it around. It's OK - I build my own firearms, so I know what I'm doing. For target shooting the light trigger is perfect. There's no danger as long as correct firearms practices are observed.
1) Always keep weapons pointed downrange when range is hot.
2) Always unload and disable ALL weapons when people are downrange.
3) Keep all people behind the firing line when range is not cold.
4) Treat all firearms as if they are loaded - even when you know they are not.
Cheers, guys. Gotta love these rifles.

As long as it can't go off while you are closing the bolt, I had a 22 that would
do it. Wouldn't have been pretty in a large caliber.

I take it ya cleaned the cosmo after dismantling to be sure none was trapped under the trigger spring/sear? if there is any it can collect debris and cause the spring to not seat fully, next make sure the cocking piece is not worn excessively if it is the rifle could fire as the bolt is closed....
The Romanian M44s usually have around a 6lb trigger pull, the Chinese T53 is the lightest usually being around 3.5 lbs put some grease on the sear face where it contacts the cocking piece to check how much engagement ya are getting, if the surfaces are square and not rounded then it should be fine ya want at least 3lbs on that trigger to be safe

I have one I picked up last year, not that easy to find these anymore. I have not shot mine but in cycling it the trigger is not light, standard Mosin pull weight.

Been thinking about adding one of the enfields in .308 to my collection. I'm glad you mentioned it. I will have to see about picking one up from Aim surplus. Gonna have to wait a while I'm borrowed out against my allowance for the next month.
