awesome day...got the riding mower out of the shop. :rofl_smal

sold my roofing nailer and a partial box of coil nails to some Messcans workin in the hood :small_gri

and my scout scope mount by Darrel is here :small_gri .sposed to rain manana..think I'll go mount the scope and fling some lead....only took 10 minutes to install the mount.

even those anal retentive types at mosin forum approve of this setup.

One of the guys on the forums suggested that you can mount a scope on an MN by removing the rear sight mount entirely - not just the rear sight ladder. The rear sight base is mounted on a dovetail on top of the barrel, then pinned in place. You can drift out the pin then drive the mount towards the muzzle to get it off. Once it's off you can mount your scope rings directly to the barrel.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

What sort of scope you popping on?

My rifle..I used that kind of mount on my Ishie 2A. I had to remove the rear sight mount from the rifle entirely, but the new mount had a picatinny rail, and I had to heat it with a torch to slide it down the barrel. It sure ain't goin anywhere :laugh_sma

Installed the scope(NCStar LER 2-7x32) and sighted the rifle in 1" high at 25 yds.

the best thing is that I met another retiree at the range who has a mauser and a 1911 45acp.He used to cast and wants to get back into it.He's going to show me how and use my equip.Looks like I'll have access to an 8mm mold, so there may be a mauser in my future :small_gri

Also, the state game and fish ppl who run the range asked me to volunteer to help run the range,so I'll probably do some of that as well.Back to the days of RANGE NAZI

I'm gonna use some of my Messcan money to buy some 4895 or 5744 and work up a good 200 yard load now that I can see! :small_gri

Get 'R' done Swabb! I put the same type of mount on a friends M44 along with a poly stock. I was really impressed with the mount, Rock solid, think I'll get one for my M38. Glad to here you got out to the range.:small_gri

picked up a pound of 4895,and I think 30 grains will be a nice load with the 200 gr GC boolits i picked up on evil bay.Gonna try to get back to the range and see what I can do at 100 and 200 yards.

ordered 2 molds yesterday to hold me till my custom molds get here next fall.
think I'll take my Oehler chrono and chrono all my loads to get some reference data...life is good :small_gri
